Does anyone have a good explanation as to why the 'fur' characters don't talk? I am anticipating the question from DD4 and am hoping someone has something clever to tell her. Thanks!

If you prefer to keep the magic of the kids believeing they're real, I'd suggest "because if they talked to every kid all day long they'd have a very sore throat!"

Tell them that the characters misbehaved and now they're not allowed to talk for a week!

I used to work in the stores and we would say "Because they speak in the international language of hugs and kisses"

I still use that with my boys and they totally believe it!

Jenny:)

Well, animals can't talk, that's what my DD said when she was 4 when another little kid was questioning it.

When asked how they could talk in the show replied, "Disney Magic!"

I miss my DD being 4! :sad1:

Honestly though, I have heard people say they have to save their voices for the stage show, and they would have sore throats if they talked all day on top of that. :thumbsup2

When I was 3, I asked my mother why the characters didn't talk and she just told me that they all had sore throats, LOL!

DS asked why they talk on tv but didn't talk to him, and I told him that they have to save their voices for the tv shows, and if they talked to all the kids at Disney World, they couldn't make the shows, and it wouldn't be fair to only talk to some of the kids, so they just aren't able to talk to any of them. ;)

Your four old can probably figure they are in costume, mine sure did. That's the reason.

Our DS3.5 asked about it and I told him that we just can't hear them but there are special microphones they use for the TV shows.

I am totally stealing this one! How else could the characters "talk" to all the boys and girls from around the world?

My son is 4 and asked this. I just told him that they were too busy, there were too many kids to talk to them all. It's faster to just take a quick pic and give an autograph. He bought it for now. ;)

I would tell them the truth. All the furies are members of Actors Equity and union rules prohibit them from talking until such time that Disney meets their wage and working conditions demands. Disney has not signed the most recent contract and all the little children are just lucky that the characters are there at all! It’s just another sad case of unfair labor practices. :thumbsup2

Last year when my DD4 we told her they were not real, they where in costumes. She was fine with it, and understood and still expressed excitement and gave hugs and whatnot to them all. The magic was still there for her. Now as far as the face characters she believes those are the real princesses.

tell them that the characters lost there voice if they ask why say goofy did something:goodvibes

I totally agree. Mine at three could see seams, could feel it wasn't fur and could see that pluto has a plastic tongue with pen marks on it from the last kid! The face characters who do talk are animated in the movies? Do the kids think they are the animated character? Mine never thought they were anything but actors and it didn't ruin the fun. Maybe that's why they weren't afraid? We told them they were people dressed up. We also told them all the different Santas we would see at Christmas were the real Santa's helpers...which they are!:santa:

This may be the winner.

She believes in Santa still - and we've told her that the 'mall' santas are Santa's helpers. Maybe we'll tell her the same thing - the characters are the "real" character's helpers - the real character are busy making movies and t.v. but the helpers report back to the real characters and tell them about all the people they meet.

That would work, right?
