I am meeting with some American disers when I go to DL in April, and I would like to take a little something for each of the children, any ideas what American children like from over here that they can't get over there?

marmite

just kidding......

You might want to just get some souvenir type thing, depending on the age of the kids. Like one of those little Bobbie (sp?) teddy bears they sell in souvenir shops.

Hi there

I meet up with some American dissers and there families when I went last year, I took some soveniers for them all from my home country Wales. For the adults I managed to get pins with the American and Welsh Flag combined, I also took pens, keyrings and for the children I took Beanie Bears with the Welsh Flag on for the Girls and Small Bouncing Balls with the flag on for the boys.

They all seemed to go down very well and they will always have a little something from you to remember you.

Chocolate.... specifically cadburys creme eggs! Well, that what the children I take stiff for love, as well as basically any Cadbury's chocolate.

I'll agree that chocolate is a good idea, or how about some football memorabilia from one of the better known clubs.

Agreed. Americans LOVE Flake (Hey, don't we all!)

i did something similar with some robin hood bits and some nottingham lace, as well as some sweets etc.

When I met up with some Dis-friends on our last cruise, I took some pressies for the children. They had a little gift bag with a Teddy with a Union Jack flag on and I bought some souvenirs from Coventry (pencil, eraser, notepad) with the Cathedral on and a postcard.

A flake is a very very crumbly chocolate bar, made almost like twirls in layers if that makes any sense. :goodvibes

Im sure someones else can describe it better than me.

Here is a picture:

i just thought of a funny thing to take to the parents...
assuming it's still sold...
when i was in London last year i saw a chocolate bar - i don't remember the name.....it had on it not for birds or something - with a picture of a girl with a line through it or something like that....it was this very thick chocolate bar.....i bought a few of them in the airport to take back to my family because i thought it was so funny (and so anti-pc)....

AHA! The Yorkie advertising campaign, my DS actually believed it and told me off for buying one once!!
How about easter eggs?

Cadburys creme eggs and similar are good ideas, I just don't want to take them something they can get readily. Thank you

I asked a similar question when I'd arranged to meet some US DISers for an IllumiNations Cruise several years ago. Someone suggested a 'Beefeater' Mickey beanie from the UK Disney Store, which went down very well. In fact, Webmaster Penny was kind enough to get it for me from the London store which was the only one which stocked it at the time. For the adults I took some Duchy's Originals biscuits in a tin (they sell them in Waitrose). Anything with a UK theme would probably work. Harrods have outlets at both Heathrow and Gatwick with some really tacky stuff! :goodvibes

Chocolate sounds good, although be careful it doesn't get crushed!
My parents have friends in Tampa and they got their grandchildren a Harrods teddy bear each (You can get all sizes if you want to just get small) and they were THRILLED with them. They take some of the conserves etc from harrods for the adults which they loved. But then these were peope that visited harrods when they cane to stay with us and they loved the store.
Hope this helps x

We can get Cadburry Eggs at Easter Time here in the US. Bring the flakes-- I have never heard of them before and they sound pretty good. Also, if it was me I would want some really authentic British tea and biscuts!

Also, my kids always like money from foreign countries. You know small coins and small bills. No matter how old they get (and they are teens now) they think money from different countries is cool. Find a cool little bag or box to put it in and they will love it.

This is a great thread.

Now my friend visits her sister every year who lives in california. Every year she takes, Chocolate, as the American stuff is not as nice as ours!!

How about twirls. They are even yummier than flakes. They melt in your mouth for longer......

Anyway, getting back, Lisa also takes proper Yorkshire Tea, good for the adults, Heniz baked beans, apparently they have a different sugar content, and also tomatoe sause and HP brown sauce. She also takes lots of things from Selfridges food department.

How about taking the kids some England football bits, with it being the world cup, or a London themed toy, for example a taxi or red bus.

She also had to take Bob the builder toys and Thomas. orry no suggestions for girls
