We are going to VB in August for three days and was wondering if there was anything interesting to stop and see on the way. We had looked into a day at cocoa beach but wasn't sure. Our flight arrives early so we have the whole day to get to Vero. We are a family of four with a 11 and 8 yo. Thanks in advance. :yay:

There really is nothing along I95....if you drive further over to A1A, there are some shops, etc. Personally, I would just head over to the resort early and enjoy the beach and pool!!!

Kennedy Space Center is just a little out of the way. Also one of our favorite restaurants Dixie Crossroads is in Titusville.

Ron Jon's in Cocoa Beach is a fun place to browse for all things beachy. We have bought boogie boards there for under $10 to use at the beach instead of renting. Since we fly, we just pass them along to another family when we leave.

Where are you flying into? That might make a huge difference in your choices.

thanks for the responses. We thought about KSC. We have been there a few times and have not ruled that out. We also thought about Cocoa beach for the surf shop as well. We are flying into Orlando. Do any of you know how far cocoa beach is from Orlando Airport, and then to VB. Thanks again.

According to my mapping software, it's 51 miles from the Orlando A/P to Cocoa.

From Cocoa to Disney's VB resort is 66 miles if you double back and follow I-95 south, or only 42 miles if you follow A1A south.

Personally I'd go A1A. It's slower driving but more scenic. My mapping program calculates 1-1/2 hours if you take A1A from Cocoa to VB, and 1-hr, 40 minutes if you double back and take I-95.

We are regular visitors to VB. And we are nature lovers. We typically stop over in Titusville and stay at the Best Western Space Shuttle Inn. It is ok... nothing great, but good prices and decent accommodations.

We like to visit the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge and take the Black's Point driving tour. We have seen many wonderful animal sights. You can also visit KSC or visit Cape Canaveral and see the Wonder or Magic cruise ship at dock.

We definitely prefer to take the slow route of A1A because it let's us see the ocean and many small towns as we drive, as opposed to a bunch of tractor trailers and cars driven by crazy time driven drivers.

As far as I could tell, there is nothing worth seeing between MCO and VB unless you want to go quite a distance out of your way. My husband travels to the Cape Canaveral area on business. I went along one trip. We tried to find a nice place to stay in Cocoa Beach and couldn't. We ended up staying at Disney, and my husband commuted to work. Cocoa Beach may be a nice place to live, but IMO, I wouldn't waste a minute of my vacation time there. This comes from someone who drove an hour out of our way to see the world's largest cast iron frying pay in Iowa.
