What do you say (or do) to characters to get a good reactions? I remember another thread on this, but can't find it. If you have the link, please let me know......otherwise, we can just start again here. :thumbsup2

Well if you are a pin person, showing that character any pins you have with them is a sure way to get some extra attention.Reciting lines from their movie (my son once told Buzz he came in peace and that got quite a reaction from Buzz). I also just think telling them how much you or your kids love them is a plus. And if you wear one of the many character type hats, when that character sees the hat they will often make over you. I know Minnie stopped once during the parade to make over my daughter's minnie headband. And Stitch once came running up behind my son to sneak up on him and bear hug him because he had his Stitch hat on. I generally find if you are into it they are!

Not really a character but, if you got to Turtle Talk ask Crush what his favorite food is - when he asks you back tell him turtle soup!!!

I'll tell you this, dont wear a hat from another Theme Park, they dont like that!

When we went to Sea World, we went to meet some characters, but my dad was wearing a Mickey hat (cause we are much bigger disney fans!) and he got told he 'was giving them a complex' :)

I got lots of attention when i was younger when i wore my Winnie the pooh tee shirt around Tigger, he loved it!

Tell Donald that he's # 1.

Tell Woody there's a snake in his boot.

Ask a princess how her prince is doing.

Ask Stitch if Lilo gave him some coffee lately.

My 2 year old knows every character by name, (from watching the Disney Fun Songs DVD's.) Chip and Dale are always impressed that he can tell the difference between them! At character connection, my son was so excited to see them. He was dancing, giggling, etc. the whole way up to greet them. They posed for pics, then played with him on the floor for a few minutes.

For Hook, we put our arms out and snap them like a crocodile, that always gets a rise out of him.

This past October, we had a chance to dine at Liberty Tree Tavern...

Chip enjoyed the t-shirt I was wearing (it said "Honk if you are about to run me over") and pulled Dale over to share...

I got great reactions when I asked:

Goofy who Max's mother was
Minnie when Mickey was going to put a ring on her finger

and when I told:

Pluto I was so sorry about "that whole not a planet anymore thing"
---
I do want to give big props to the various CMs/characters that work at WDW every day throughout the parks. I got great vicarious joy from watching the reactions of children...

...during our dinner, there was a family seated near us who had a child who was mentally challenged (there was apparently a whole group of kids who were in the Special Olympics there during our stay, as we heard a number of families mentioning them)...and Goofy and Pluto both gave him extra special attention: they brought over a trio of Mr. Potato Heads and lots of parts to mix and match and played with him for a little while each. It was wonderful to see how happy that little boy was!

I think that this is the thread you were looking for: What else to say to the characters. It'll have some good ideas too.

Here's a couple from the top of my head:

* Have the kids (or you if it applies) tell the characters if you've ever dressed up for them for Halloween or in a play.

* Cruella adores compliments. She might be nicer if you tell her that she looks fabulous.

* Knowing the characters names is great- especially for the more obscure characters. I remember Shaker in particular getting excited that I knew who he was since no one else wanted to meet him.

* Ask Cinderella about how Gus and Jaq are doing.

* At Akershus, tell Ariel how glad you are to see that she got her legs.

* Try asking Pocahontas how she says "hello". She might teach you to say "win-gap-o" and the accompanying hand motion.

I got a lot of good points to use from the other thread and used a few in Disney last month. DH looked at me with the "I don't know you" look, but even he eventually caved in and started interacting. He loved it once he started.

In Epcot, we got to see Figment. Epcot was our first day in any of the Disney Parks, and I told Figment that he is our DS's very first autograph. Well, Figment then "stamped" our DS's book 4 times.

The first two characters we saw at MK were from Pinochio (I'm not up to speed on Pinochio, so I forgot the character names). I just remember they weren't the good influences for Pinochio and started leading him down the wrong path (so-to-speak). Anyway, I asked them if they had seen Pinochio yet. They stopped and put their hands by there forehead looking for him. The CM said they were trying to come up with a strategy to find him.

Buzz Lightyear: We did Ranger Spin in Tomorrowland and came out to find Buzz at CoP signing (stamping) autographs, so we got in line. When it was our DS4's turn, we told Buzz that DS got "Ranger First Class" with his fight against Zurg. Buzz gave him a "thumbs up".

In MGM, we had a character breakfast (Play N Dine) with JoJo and Little Einsteins. Well, prior to JoJo airing on Playhouse Disney, our DS's daycare gave him the nick-name JoJo. When we met JoJo, I told her about his nickname from daycare. She was so excited and signed his book "To JoJo, love & Popcorn, love JoJo.

I really thought that our DS would be very shy around the characters at first (he usually is at home when he attends birthday parties), but that wasn't the case at all. He went to each one and had a smile from ear to ear with a very "proud" look on his face with each one!

My dd (7) loves to tell Minnie that she (my daughter) has a crush on Mickey. When she sees Mickey, she tells him that she told Minnie she (my dd) has a crush on him. She always gets a great reaction and I think she picked the whole idea up from a Mickey cartoon on the Disney channel.

At Breakfastsaurus, Donald's Hawaiian shirt really reminded me of a pajama top. I pointed to his shirt and asked him if he didn't have time to change out of his PJs before work.

Pocahontas was very interactive when I told her we lived just a few miles away from Jamestown, and that I had been to Captain John Smith's settlement many times. She was less receptive to my comment that I'd also visited Gravesend in England. (The location of the real Pocahontas' grave.)

That's highly understandable.

Well, one time when I was taking a picture of Captain Hook and my family I said - "Smile and say crocodile!" and that really got Cpt. Hook going! :)

I was filming Cruella once and she asked me what for...I told her it was for PETA....she wasn't impressed!!!

I am always wearing my Maleficent horns so any time I meet Princess Aurora she's a bit scared.....!!

Offer Snow White an apple.
I used to always tell piglet that I wanted a PLT, Piglet Lettuce and Tomato sandwhich.

Just be nice to them, they get pushed around so much that kindness and gentleness will go a long ways.

Ask Chip and Dale if they are squirrels. The reaction they gave us had my DS13 laughing for about 30 min, and he doesn't usually interact with characters. This may have changed his mind. :thumbsup2

Call Hook a codfish or say tick tock-Smee get a kick out of also. When we went to the PSB-just girls. Mulan said all girls, I am sick of boys too!
