What to put in a glass hutch?

You could put little curtains inside the bottom doors & hide the ugly stuff down there. They could even be a color that matches the wood so it looks like a solid door.

If you have absolutely no pretty dishes, vases, knick knacks, candles or whatever, how about old books? A few here & there in the top nicely arranged might work. Photo frames. Something pretty from outside perhaps. A jar or seashells or pretty stones. You don't have to collect objects by theme, you can collect color too. Any objects of all the same color.

You could use the same fabric from the bottom curtains to line the back wall of the top cabinet.

Agree. Never paint that hutch.

Remember, less is more.

Whatever you do, don't buy so much stuff that we find you on the declutter thread someday :rotfl:.

I would make nice sheers to put on the inside of the doors to hide your DH's stuff.

How about taking some of the stuff you have on the open surface and displaying it inside? Since they are small, you could take odd boxes that are covered with plain colored paper or material and sort of raise them up higher to be seen. This would also free that surface for serving space when needed. You could fill in with some pictures in frames, etc. I love the Disney brochure idea. Fill it with things you love. I even have one of my kids old dearly loved stuffed animals in mine. (along with some wedding gifts, heirlooms, trip souveniers, etc.) My glass front case is in my living room, so it isn't necessarily dishware, although there are a few dishes in it.

I think the bottom would look nice with a few nicely stacked books and the liquor bottles. Also - maybe your dh's brewing stuff would fit in a more decorative basket or box so what showed through the glass looked pretty?

I think finding a way to actually store stuff you need room for (but in a more decorative way) would be great for the bottom. Weightier stuff on the bottom, smaller knick-nacky stuff on the top.

Some Ideas:

  • Cook books
  • Photo frames
  • quilts
  • baskets
  • organized canned goods & bottles
  • beans, rice, grains, and pasta in glass canisters/mason jars
Or cover the windows with Disney Custom Maps
