I know, I know, the concept of kindergarten graduation is kinda silly. They never did that when we were kids! But to Ian it's quite a milestone. Anyway, being his favorite Auntie and bonus mom, I want to give him a special gift. When I graduated I got luggage and a $50 savings bond. While that would be funny, I don't think he'd see he humor in it! So what's a good gift for your special little buddy for graduation if he's not old enough to go get a job now?

How about a nice card that says "Congrats on staying in the lines." and maybe a little toy or something? :confused3

Tee hee hee! How about "Thanks for not eating paste".

Seriously, how about a summer type toy like a sprinkler or pool toys etc...

My older dd got kindergarten graduation presents only from us and her grandparents. I honestly don't remember what DH's parents gave her, but mine gave her a very nice Children's Bible with a cool cover (the kind that zips up and has a handle). She still uses it. DD2 is graduating on Friday ( ) and is hoping for a Bible with a similar cover in her favorite color. (which I saw back in December in a Christian Book store and stupidly didn't buy as I knew my parents were going to give her one - and now they can't find one. I'm sure she will like what they get her, though. )

We are giving her a Breyer horse, because she's been wanting one :)

I would say any toy or item you would give your niece for a birthday or Christmas would be appropriate. It's not like high school graduation where you give something they'll need for college or Real Life :teeth:

Also, although they aren't so thrilling to a child, we are deeply grateful when the girls get college savings bonds. I got lots of them from my grandparents growing up (along with a small item for "now" ) and thought it was nice but wasn't overly excited. I can tell you when I graduated without student loans thanks to my grandparents, I was grateful for sure! They really are the gilft that gives twice, as the child thanks you now, but will really thank you later ::yes::

I'm sure he will appreiciate anything you give him. My dds even get excited when someone mails them a card (they love to get mail addressed to them) and they love gift certificates so they can go shopping themselves, and they love being taken out to eat. Once a month or so, DH takes each girl on a special "Daddy Breakfast" and they usually just choose Waffle House :rotfl: but you'd think it was High Tea at the Ritz. If you took your nephew out to eat - just you and him, he would feel so grown up. Kids love having your undivided attention :)

Happy shopping!

Laurie :)

Edited due to inadvertantly turning Ian into a girl

Why not tell the little guy how proud of him you are & take him to his favorite store & allow him to pick out (with your supervision) something special he'd like to have. I'd make certain he understood this was because of his special achievement. Maybe afterward the 2 of you could go for ice cream. :teeth:

I think I'd give a kindergartener a card and a small toy...

Probably a small summer toy. When I graduated Kindergarten I got a little teddy bear with a graduation cap, a few summer toys, and a savings bond.

I took the twins to Dairy Queen after their kindergarten graduation, they were thrilled!

:wave2: A Barnes and Noble gift card. My mom gave DS one for $30 when he graduated, and he would go back once a month and get a new book, it lasted forever and he had lots of fun with it.

My nephew graduated from Kindergarten last week. I am also his favorite Auntie and he thinks of me as a "mom." He LOVES Starbucks and I bought him a special baseball gift card they have online right now. He also plays baseball so he loves it. I didn't know what else to get him and his birthday is Thursday (see my counter below) so I already have lots of presents for him.

He loved the Starbucks card and has already used it. :cool1:

My dd is "graduating" from kindergarten this year, also. Personally, I'd perfer nothing from relatives. If someone "must" get something, a small toy or book (under $20).

I say a card and the first book in a series he might be interested in reading.... The Magic Treehouse series, The Secret of Droon series, even Captain Underpants series. These are all Scholastic books and will jump start a love of reading. Oh - Mercer Mayer books are great as well (Just Me and My Dad, Just Me and Family... etc). Just a thought.

When both of my kids graduated, no other family was invited and my dh & I took the graduate to lunch (while their sibling was in school) at a place of their choosing.

I just recently bought Ian a boxed set of the Captain Underpants series. It's right up the alley of a 5 year old boy for sure. To see him laugh hysterically at the potty references just gets me every time. But then, I laughed too. Then again, I'm the one who taught him about "pull my finger" and I thought that was funny too. DH says he married a 12 year old boy and that he finds that thought most disturbing! :rotfl:

LOL! That's too funny. Another set of books he might enjoy are the Kung Fu Pigs... http://www.scholastic.co.uk/zone/book_kungfu-pigs.htm My ds just discovered these and is really enjoying them! I bet Ian loves having a cool aunt! :)

I've got a nephew and a niece about to graduate from kindergarten.....I'm planning on getting them a summer type toy. That's kind of a family tradition. Every year, on the last day of school, my dad & mom would take us to the toy store and we would pick out a beach toy, since we spent so much time at the beach in the summer.

But since you guys are so close, I'd take him out to lunch at a family style restaurant--Friendly's would be perfect. Great kid's meals & ice cream! I might take my niece out since she's my Goddaughter.

I got my nephew a cute little card and a children's dictionary. He loves to look up words.

Children love to get mail. I would get a subscription to a child's magazine like Highlights or Zoo Books!

I think the obvious gift is a book!

That was my first thought as well! A Dr. Seuss book. :)

Or a gift certificate to the book store so he can pick out his own book.
