What are you getting your Mom for Christmas? I have no idea what to get her & she's no help... My Mom is 68, she buys whatever she wants already.. big catalog shopper, not hi-tech at all.. I don't even think she's used the DVD player I got her last year. Not a huge jewelry wearer, done the slippers/robe/pj's thing a zillion times. Dad passed on a few years ago so she's basically on her own, her health has declined this past year (diabetic) so I'd like to get something that would help her out but have no clue... I'd love to get her Merry Maids or something for a few months but she'd probably balk at it. HELP!!! Any ideas?

Get her some gift certificates at her favorite store. Almost any store you go to now, has gift certificates at their counters. JCPenney, target, Walmart, etc.

My Grandma, brother and I are buying my mom a digital camera for X-mas this year. My mom is not a high tech person too, but my DH found a camera that she'll be able to use with no problem.

Do you have any pottery-making places where you live. We have 2 around here and you can go into this store and take an already made pottery item and paint it however you want. Then the store finishes it in a couple of days for you to pick-up. I've always wanted to take my girls to this store to make a platter for my mom and then I never do. If you have something like this by you, she may really like that.

Or....how about a really nice Precious Moment or another type of keepsake? Do you have a Things Remembered store by you? They have very beautiful things there to give people.

Good luck!!!

DH and I have decided to get his and my mom programmable thermostats. I know.........not something I would think of as a Christmas present, but we had the same problem. They both just say "don't get me anything", but you know we can't do that.
And a gift certificate to their respective hair salons, since they both get their hair done weekly.

Well, this year we bought subscriptions to magazines for my mom and MIL. Does she like to cook? Do crafts, scrapbook? They have a magazine out there for just about everything. My MIL got a quilting mag and my mom got a puzzle mag.

Im making my grandma 79, a calender with pics of the whole family on it.

My moms 2 big gifts are boat tickets to the holiday boat parade in newport beach and dinner at a nice restaurant. And a Tivo unit for her bedroom. She is NOT a techie but even she sees the value of Tivo.

I'm taking my Mom for the day to a casino (an hour and a half away). She's not a huge gambler but she loves going up there for the day. She says she enjoys spending our inheritence!! :teeth:

Welcome to my world!!!!! ;) Every year my brother & I pray for a major appliance to break the day after Thanksgiving so we have something we can get my parents!!!!!!

I usually I get them Lotto scratch-offs, gift certificates to their favorite lunch places (they have a few in the area where they like to go), I get my mother some kind of cute little sweatshirt thing (she really feels the cold), I get my father a book & some chocolates...at this point it's mostly cute little rememberances type things. They don't want knick-knacks, don't entertain much anymore, don't travela lot, so they are very hard to buy for!!!!

What about 2 tickets to a show for you and her to go to together? Or something else involving spending time with her?

My mom's recipes are VERY messy and disorganized. She has like a million recipes. She has duplicate copies of some. Some are written on notecards, some were cut out from magazines, some were written on scraps of papers, and some were printed off the computer. It is impossible to find anything in a reasonable amount of time. So, this year, I mentioned that I would type all the recipes up and then organize them in a binder. When I asked her what she wanted for Christmas, that's what she said she wanted. I want to get her something else, but that is what she wants, so hopefully (if I finishe it in time) that is what she will get.
