I am not sure what I can get my DS8 for Christmas. He is my youngest and he still believes. How do I keep the magic alive when his sister is 12 and he is the only one who believes?

ETA: He loves video games but has a DS and Wii. He also loves Pokemon but I can't bear to buy anymore of those cards (that I find all over the house)

My DS is also 8. Last Christmas he got several real kid-sized tools from Lowes. This year we'll get him the toolbench so they all have a place to go and he can use them more readily. We'll also get him several containers filled with different sized nails and screws along with lots of random boards and pieces of wood so he can built things.

I'm also starting to save paper towel rolls, kleenix boxes etc. My kids love to create things out of stuff like that. I'm going to make a whole section of our unfinished basement into a creativity center. I'll get them a hot glue gun and tons of random things that they can use to build whatever they want and decorate it :)

My DS is 7 and nearly impossible to buy for because he doesn't really play with toys, he prefers "action" like sports. His list this year includes a bunch of things he's not going to get, but some things that I'm trying to decide about:
skateboard and ramp
bike
3DS
dentist play doh
remote control truck or helicopter
volleyball or tetherball
guitar
paper jamz microphone

And he didn't ask for it, but I already bought him a marshmallow shooter.

I think I'm going to wait until his April birthday to get the skateboard and some lessons at the outdoor skatepark near us. He already tries tricks, but his old one is falling apart.

Legos are the biggest request from my DS8 this year. DS10 also got Snap Circuits at that age (very cool toy!)

As for keeping the magic alive, it's a tough one. Probably the hardest part is getting the older kid(s) to agree that it's important not to spoil it for DS.

Mine is getting Legos (tons of them- Ninjago, Star Wars, POTC), Star Wars blu-ray set (all the movies) and Star Wars figures. Oh, and the Lego Harry Potter years 5-7 game.

My ds8 is getting
Nintendo 3DS and a couple games
POTC and Spongebob Legos
Vortex Nerf gun
Mario Yahtzee game
Yankees (Jeter) stuff for his room
Civil War books
Sketch pad and art set

My 8-in-January DS is hoping for:
- Legos, Legos, and more Legos
- an iPod Touch or Kindle Fire
- a BMX bike
- a buff from every Survivor (thanks for getting him hooked on THAT Netflix...every buff from every season calculates to about $1200 :lmao:)

obviously he won't bet getting everything on his list

And Mrsbornkuntry, my DS earned a marshmallow shooter last year in cub scouts for popcorn sales - a big tip is to dust the chamber and the marshmallow with cornstarch before shooting. :thumbsup2

Don't forget the PVC pipe and connectors, my boys can build all types of things with PVC pipe. Plus the experience comes in handy when you have to redo the sprinkler system. :lmao:

As for the 12 yo. Just remind her that Santa only comes to those who believe, (or pretend to.)

The phrase "still believes" covers the info quite well. Perhaps an edit of the OP might help from others learning what you are hoping to keep secret for a while longer.

I've seen you post this idea on a couple of threads. I want to tell you: A) You are an incredibly creative person and I bet your kids are a lot of fun :) and B) You are a super brave mom. If I gave my YDS nails/screws or access to hot glue we would be in the emergency room very quickly. I'm always amazed when I see kids who can be allowed to play with those sorts of items (the kids across from my mom were always building and creating with scrap material) and not get hurt. I think my kids got my "klutz" gene LOL

My YDS will be 8, but he is "young" for his age so some of his things might not work. I do see a few things on other's lists that I have in mind for him. Legos (Yes! The Spongebob ones LOL), a Nerf gun (thinking of getting him and his older brother the one that shoots discs), a Yahtzee game (but we are going with Spongebob ;)) and a child's guitar.

mrsbornkuntry - where did you find the dentist playdoh? He got a BBQ playdoh set last year that has gotten more play than just the "generic" playdoh pack.

KristinU - I must be way out of the loop. What is a buff?

What is he asking for? To keep the magic alive, usually that means getting what he asks for from the big guy otherwise he would start to question. I agree with PP on telling DD that only those that believe (or pretend to) receive a Santa gift so she does not spoil it for him.

He is asking for a laptop, iPod touch, netbook and a few other high dollar gifts. It really isn't in the budget to buy him any one of these things this year. I want to get him something that looks like a big gift that doesn't break the bank but I haven't come across anything yet.

DS is 8 and wants a 3DSI, legos (Pirates of the Carribean), Squinkies Boys, Imaginext sets, and a guitar. We already promised to get the guitar at Christmas if he sticks with his lessons until then, so that would be from us. The rest from Santa along with some books and gift cards (Disney, Game Stop) and any other cool things I find while shopping.

Ds 7 is getting dagedar sets, a couple lego ninjago sets, a domino set, an explorer game and a couple wii game. I would probably tell your child that santa is not bringing electronics this year, just so he wont get crushed. If he is passed the toy age maybe some books and some computer games. Or maybe look on craigslist for used electronics.

My nephew is 7 and hard to buy for! He has grown up in a house full of all girls, and believe it or not he is most comfortable playing barbies with his sisters:lmao: Therefore, it is hard to buy for him!!!!
I have so far gotten him the 405 piece lego set, the toy story figures for it and I think the transformer figures? I can't remember. I also plan on getting him Phineaus and Ferb movie, and the little Phineaus and Ferb action set and a couple shirts and he is done.

If you've ever seen Survivor, they all wear a fabric tube sort of thing in their team color. They can be worn as a headband, almost like a hood, the young girls wear it around their chest/waist/hips, some loop it around their wrist or arm...all sorts of ways to wear them. They're "official" and have a different color and design every season and are made of some special fabric that has an SPF factor to it. So they run about $20 a piece, not cheap. And of course each of the two teams in the beginning has a color, then when the tribes merge there is a third color. So each season has 3 colors and we're at something like season 23 now. DS has one and wears it a lot, but he certainly doesn't need a billion more!
