What is a good gift to get my cousin and his wife for their vow renewal. They also have two kids a boy and girl both around 8yrs old I'd like to give something too. They will be renewing their vows on the Disney dream this Oct. We I'll be joining them on the ship so the gifts have to be something I can bring with us onto the ship in our luggage.

A shore excursion for the family to do together? You could arrange for a pic to be taken of them doing the activity together. A gift cert for a local photographer for family pics?? That is about all I have. Good Luck!

You could have some wine/champagne and chocolate covered strawberries waiting for them in their room upon arrival.

Are you wanting budget ideas, or are you just posting on the budget boards?:)

It would be nice if the gifts were budget. I am thinking of maybe using shirley's gift baskets that she send to the ship but not sure what to ask her to put in it. :confused3

Wanted to add that I do not see this cousin much since we both got married and moved to different states. We may see each other every few years at family get togethers. We used to see each other every week when we where young.

We always give my parents an on-board credit with Royal Caribbean- they like to go to specialty dining so know they will spend it.

DCL has picture credit packages starting at $89. Then they can pick out some of their favorite pictures.

I LOOOVE to get beautiful picture frames as gifts. I prefer silver rather ornate ones. Everyone needs them to display pix and esp they will need some for the renewal day.

I like the ideas given!

And I think it's so sweet that you're going *and* thinking about a gift. Not everyone is so gracious about vow renewals. Yay for you!

I guess I'm in the minority. I don't think a gift is necessary for a vow renewal. I think of a vow renewal as a personal thing between 2 people. I guess if it's 25 or 50 years a gift would be in order. I would think you could buy them a drink. I know I wouldn't expect a gift. I think it's nice you are on the cruise with them.

I agree, you give wedding gifts because the couple is just starting out in life as a way to get them started…
Same thing for baby showers, baby #1 gets the loot, the others not so much…

ditto. I just had my 3rd wedding and we begged people not to bring gifts. Only 3 did, thank goodness, but we have a houseful of stuff and don't need anything else. THeir presence at our wedding was gift enough.

I agree. Unless it's the 25th or 50th, nothing but your good wishes are required. And you'll be there to share it with them. That should be enough.

Some of my favorite gifts to give are not the typical "required" ones but the times that I'm not actually required to give one but choose to anyway :)

I love the ideal of the a shore excursion, but I'd imagine that could get pricey!

nice frame... I'm sure the ship itself has a nice one you could buy onboard.. would cost more than something similar, however, it would fit the theme of holding the picture of the vow renewal day on this ship it occured on..

if you are crafty or have fun working with photos, you can make a nice "gift certificate" for her and put it in a card and ask that she upload any pic's that she takes, as well as you upload any you take to a shared photosite, and then use those pics to make her a nice photobook as a gift after the cruise is over... your gift certificate could say something like you share your pics w/ me online and my gift to you is a completed photo book to help record the memories of your vow renweal trip... ( I LOVE this one but then I love photo books)

I agree with this, but I'll take it a step further. I don't understand vow renewal. You are supposed to be committed forever when you marry or so I thought. When did the vows start expiring and need to be renewed? I'm not doing that. All the people I know in real life (and reality shows- except the Duggars) that renewed their vows are now divorced. Not sure it's a great idea. I would get them an anniversary gift.

I kind of thought this, too. However, being as the OP was close to the bride as a child......I guess, were I in that situation, I might want to give them a little something. I really like good pictures, as a parent it's rare to have a good vacation picture with EVERYONE in it. I liked the ideas of a picture frame and the credit for a photo session - maybe combine them? Give them the frame and a certificate for the session. The other idea I liked was a shore excursion for the family, although that sounds pricey, and they may have already decided and budgeted for which excursions they want to do?

I never thought of it that way, but I guess it has a ring of truth. I think, maybe, one reason is that many of those couples renew BECAUSE their early marriage was so hard and they have now hit a better place. It's like saying "I'd marry you all over again, even though ____________" Like the Duggars (they can't have had an EASY marriage with all those kids) or the Gosselins (again, having high order multiples put a lot of stress on them as a couple and as individuals.) Or anyone who had medical issues, financial woes, etc... to really make the first part of their marriage a struggle. But, just because they recognize their struggles and are in a better place doesn't mean they can/have totally let go of all the hurt that built up over those years. Sometimes you can't. I think, in those cases, a vow renewal was their last step in trying to fix a broken marriage.

Very sweet of you to think of them! I do agree that one isn't necessary, but since gifts are actually supposed to be given from your heart rather than b/c you're "supposed to", if you still feel like giving them a token to celebrate the event, then go right ahead!

One budget option is to purchase for them a Rainforest Pass from the spa. You could spend more and do a length of stay pass (I think $99 for a couple), or just a day pass for, I think, $16/per person, per day. If you think they won't use it or have time for it, you could just order a bottle of champagne for their room. The prices are below, just don't forget that they tack on a 15% tip to this amount:

Champagne and Sparkling Wines
Item 1186: Iron Horse Brut Fairy Tale Cuvée Champagne, California, $52
Item 1187: Korbel Brut N.V. Champagne, California, $29
Item 1189: Möet & Chandon WHITE STAR Champagne, France, $79
Item 1190: Martini & Rossi Asti Spumante, Italy, $28
Item 2031: Möet & Chandon Cuvee Dom Perignon, France, $225

I'm with you on this.

Ok so I think I will make them a nice Disney card for them with my well wishes.
I can give them something but not too much of something.
Just basically a nice congratulations and a continued happy marriage.

Yes. A token gift is more than enough.

totally agree...I think a nice card would be very nice and maybe some bubbles for the kids to blow at the 'bride and groom' would be sweet [but make sure they are allowed in checked luggage if sealed, etc.]
