What to expect mid August?

A friend and I are thinking about a short trip in a few weeks for my birthday. I am a planner, spent months planning our family trip to the world last yr, so this quick decision to go has me a little worried.

How busy will the parks be? *I have only been once to dl but it was in the slow season (november)* It will be a weekend that we have to go over, Friday *evening* thru Monday in the parks so I know they will be busy but is it worth the trip? I was thinking of getting ride max once we have our dates booked and hope we can fit in as much as we can.

We are just looking at hotels (have stayed at the Ramada Main Gate a few yrs ago) would like something simular but maybe a little cheaper if we can find it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It is busy and warm to hot. We always go mid August and have a blast because we plan. Most of the places to stay close will be booked. We never go on a weekend just because it gets even more crowded, but you will have a great time if you plan.

If you can, avoid the weekend that So Cal APs are allowed back in. We were there that weekend last year (my guess it is Aug 14 weekend, but check the calendar) and Saturday was fine and Sunday (when the passes opened back up) it was REALLY crowded!

I don't know if the next weekend is better since it isn't the first?? Not sure... I would try Aug 7 if you could swing it.

The blockout starts to lift the weekend of August 21-22. We know because our dates are not flexible and we'll be there from the 21st-23rd before our extended family's beach vacation.

Saturday, the 21st is still a blockout, then Sunday they admit some of the non-Premium AP holders, and then Monday the blockout lifts entirely.

It's our kids' first visit to DL - hope this is still a good idea!
