What to expect in May?

We are taking our DD's, ages 8,3, May 12-19,2007. I heard the weather is the mid to upper 80's. Is this true? Is it humid? How are the crowds? I have heard conflicting statements- "It is a great time of year. Small lines." To, "It is busy. Go early. Florida children are out of school."
Can anyone shed some light on this subject? Offer any advice? Thank you!

I'm glad you posted this because just last night I asked a diff. board about their May experiences (planning on a early May 2008). I heard it was wonderful not too hot except for maybe a few hours in the afternoon and lines not too bad to people that said it was HOT HOT!!! Hopefully someone else will come along and tell us it is a pretty good time to go.

If you go before Memorial Day, crowds should be light.

Average highs in early May are in the mid-80s and by late May have climbed to 90. There is more of a chance of cooler days in early May (but you could also have some days in the mid-90s). By late May the summer pattern is starting to lock in.

I have gone a few times in May & the weather was nice.

I will tell you that the last time I went in May it was Mother's Day weekend & that weekend the crowds were horrid.

We were in the MK on the Saturday before Mother's Day & prior to the fireworks (which was the only night they were showing that week) it was crowded but right after you couldn't even walk on Main Street all the way up to the castle.

I didn't have kids then but I swear there were many strollers in my legs so I vowed when I had a kid/stroller in Disney I wouldn't do that & I have not hit anyone (yet).

The rest of the week we were there were fine crowd wise. I don't recall if there were any waits & for how long since that was 10ish years ago.

But because of that one night (and the time I went Easter week), I will only go in the summer now.

I'm bumping this back up for you hoping to hear more experiences with early to mid May. I'm still trying to choose being that and Feb. (of course I'm not going for a whole nother year but nothing like planning ahead!!)

Hey there. We just went this past may...20-27th exactly and it was hot hot hot. It was the start (20th) of the star wars weekends so we actually got in on 2 weekends but it was busy at mgm.
We didn't have a drop of rain and it was mid 90's every day. We loved that.
I think if you can get in after easter but before memorial day would be the best.

Ill bump you back up again cuz we are going in May too :cool1:  :cheer2: :Pinkbounc And we hope for tenie tiny crowds and warm sunny days :sunny: Have a great trip

and we chose those dates to avoid Easter, but not be too far into May to have really hot weather. Our friends went on the first two full weeks of May this year, and found it really hot.

We've gone twice in May (2004 & 2005), and we thought the weather was great (low to mid-80s)! On both trips, there was one day of 90 degree weather, and on our 2005 trip we had one afternoon of brief showers which lasted maybe a half hour. As for lines, we never waited longer than 10 minutes for the main attractions. We also avoided EPCOT and MK on Mother's Day (went to AK and it was great). :goodvibes

Forgot to add that if you go the 2nd week to mid-month of May, you get the benefit of both the Flower & Garden Festival and Star Wars Weekends. :thumbsup2

Hot is all relative, of course Canadians would consider the 80's hot, but to me that is a great time to go because the swimming is so nice. We are southerners so we don't swim or wear shorts if it is much below 75. Crowds should be fine before Memorial Day.

Back in 2003 we went May 1-8, it was hot and humid as can be. It must have been 95-100° all week. On the bright side, I hear that was unusual weather. This year we went April 24-May 1 and the first couple days were warm 90's after that it was a comfortable mid 80's. I thought that the crowds were acceptable. I have never gone for peak or off-peak season for comparison. Personally, I thought that they are definitely doable crowd levels. That is why we are going back April 22-30.

We were there May 3-11, 2006. It was very hot, we had days that were in the low 90's. It was hotter than I thought it would be at that time, but we were careful to stay hydrated. My girls were 7 and 9, so the heat didn't bother them as much as it bothered me. We did take some afternoon breaks to go swimming, that seemed to help a lot with the heat.

The swimming was great! In the past, we have usually gone in November or December, so it was nice to try the water parks. I think we had one rainy evening into morning, but we went to the MK that morning while it was still raining and it was almost empty. The rain stopped around 11 am and the crowds picked up.

The crowds were larger than I thought they would be, but they were weren't too overwhelming. We used a lot of fast passes and it worked it fine. I do suggest ADRs since every TS place we went to, they were not taking walk ups. I'm glad I made all of our ADRs before we left.

We were there this past early/mid May. The 1st couple days were hot, but bearable and they last couple days were freakin' hot. On the day we went to Blizzard beach we burnt our feet on the paths 'cause they were so hot. Be sure to bring mister fans (filled with ice water) and Brita water filter bottles. ( that way when you're water's warm you can refill them at any fountain and still have fresh, cold water)

We love going in May we go every year around the 2oth of May. The weather is in the high 80's most years. The flowers at epcot are breath taking. The crowds except for weekends are low. Have a great trip. We will be at The BCV may 18-24 .

We have been there the last three years the week before Memorial Day. Yes, it was hot, but it is Florida and suppose to be hot. Not so hot that we had heat problems. Crowds were moderate and if you know what your doing you really don't have to stand in very long lines. The longest was 25 minutes in three years. I love May and hope to be there again this year just before Memorial day.

We've gone in May twice and loved it. The temps were high a couple of days but we would swim mid-day when it felt the worst. The crowds were nice and low. Summer was a lot more crowded.
