Hey everyone !
We will be eating our first night at RainForest Cafe. My DH and kids have never eaten here, and I think they would love the atmosphere !
But, I have heard mixed reviews about the food itself. Any recommendations?
The kids are 5 and will probably just share a kids meal.
But, for hubby and myself any recommendations, what is really good?
I'd hate to pay the money and not even enjoy our dinner!

We had my daughter's 1st birthday party at the Rainforest Cafe (near Washington, DC though, not Disney) and we aren't huge fans of the food but went for the atmosphere. Everyone who was there ordered something different, from fish to burgers, to salads, and they all seemed pleased. Nothing is super great (IMO), but I also haven't had anything terrible either. They have a huge menu so there will definitely be something that you like on there. Sorry I can't be of more help/more specific, but I was so busy with the party stuff that I can't even remember the appetizers I ate!

Last year DH and I couldn't decide what to get, so we ended up splitting this GIANT appetizer platter as our lunch. It had a little bit of everything, and it tasted great! Unfortunately I can't remember the name of it but if you were interested just look under the appetizer section...I think it cost about $15.

DS had the chicken strips ;) , and we ordered him one of those volcano desserts...he got a huge kick out of that! The taste isn't anything special, but the presentation more than makes up for it.

We took in the Rain Forest Cafe on our trip last Nov. I had mixed reviews about going as I had heard it was fairly expensive for what you get but we went for the atmosphere. What I didn't care for was that everything was extra. Your burger didn't come with fries, they were extra. Chips were served instead. I felt for the price you paid for the main entre, your side should be included. Atmosphere was all right but would not go back.

The Chimi Cha Cha appetizer is really good.

I got the parmasean crusted snapper once. It was a lot better than I expected.

The Volcano is always a hit.

Don't worry about the reviews, just go and check it out. When are you going? Do you hagve time to sign up for the Safari Club before you go? It makes the wait for a table a whole lot easier, especially at DTD where it is often pretty busy.

Check out the benefits. Definitely worth it, in my opinion.

My friend and I actgually went to Rainforest Cafe for dinner last night - it was packed because we didn't realize it was "Kid's eat for $1.99 Wednesday." (Not sure if the Disney ones do that as well.)

Anyway, the food is never anything to write home about, although the Volcano is certainly impressive. I got the Turkey Wrap (sans bacon) and their Caesar dressing in it is SPICY; my chapped lips were burning from it. It was ok, just wish they had another sauce for it.

I suggest the Jambalya (w/rice instead of the pasta) its my fav :cool1:
Have fun

My DH loves the individual pizzas. I agree they're pretty good. I also like the coconut shrimp. I haven't had anything that wasn't good.

There is a mixed grill of some sort that is really good. I forgot what it's called.
My fiance and I shared it and we both had enough food.

The Mogambo Shrimp Pasta has always been really good and I have eaten at the rainforest Cafe in DTD a few times. The rainforest pita quesidillas for an appetizer are also really good. We will be trying the Rainforest Cafe at AK for the first time on our trip in May and I hope it is just like the one in DTD :mickeybar

I do not recommend the filet mignon. It is nothing special for $25. Lone Star filets are much better and cost less.

I did really like their flavored lemonades. The raspberry lemonade was the best. Strawberry was good too. My DH got some kind of shrimp thing and really liked it. I think it had coconut on it.

The BBQ chicken wrap is awesome. That's what we get every time. Also, the cobb salad is great. The BBQ chicken pizza is a winner, too (and I work for a pizza magazine!!) but is pretty spicy for kids. The grilled chicken sandwich is large and could probably be split if you're not eating with my husband.

I am shocked that nobody mentined their Shrimp en brochette. It was wonderful!!! It is crab/lobster-stuffed shrimp wrapped in bacon and topped with three different kinds of cheese. I am still trying to find a recipe for it so I can make it at home!

If I go with my mom, we share the Pot Roast meal! YUM! :flower:

If I go with my daughter, we share the steak, shrimp and rib combo. I eat the steak and shrimp, she eats the ribs. Their coconut shrimp are DELICIOUS!!

A little off topic, but can you make ressies through Disney Dining or do you have to call the restaurant directly for the DTD location???

Also, I know the RFC gets mixed reviews, but we have always enjoyed the food there and always felt like you get a lot of it for your money.

$12-it's brownies, ice cream, hot fudge, and sparklers on the top.
