What to do?

I'm not sure what to do. We are a family of 3, dd is 6yo. We have another timeshare and we have always stayed in a 2br. We are going home the first time to BCV in Feb. I am getting so excited! I booked a 2br for Sunday-Friday (leaving on Friday) We only have 200 points, added on 30 in August so we could do this! But now I am wondering if we should get a 1br and stay on Friday night. We're not the type of people that would go someplace one night since we are driving down. How is it for a family of 3 in a 1 br? Now we are wishing we added on more points!
Thanks

Of course we have also been fine (for shorter periods) in a Studio and regular 2 Queen hotel room (AKL). We have the two kids, DS 6 in wheelchair and DD 4 (both redheaded!) and they have been fine together in the hide-a-bed in the 1BR. Of course it is always nice to spred out in a 2BR and not have to make up the hide-a-bed (known to our DD as the "hided bed":p) every morning, but the savings is hard to argue with. Plus the 1BR is still spacious enough (for us at least) to accommodate the 4 of us and DS's wheelchair more-or-less comfortably.

Hey, and if you get one of the lockoff 2BRs, you can simply move your stuff out of the studio section on the last day of your 2BR and not have to pack up all your stuff right away. Of course another option for that Friday night would be to keep the 2BR and pay cash with DVCer discount; or you could just rent the difference needed for that nite on the rent/trade board, or borrow it from next year...
:hyper:

We used a 1 Bdrm for my SIL and I with a 7 and 6 yo. We were more than fine for space. I would personally rather do that and go back again than use my points for a 2 bedroom.

A one bedroom is plenty large enough for 3 people. I would rather have one more night at WDW and one less bedroom for the trip.

A 1BR is indeed plenty large for 3 people.

Keep in mind, in a 2BR the second bedroom is really two rooms away. Do you think your 6 year old would be comfortable with that in a strange place (not home)? Just another consideration.

We use a 2BR for the four of us for a couple of reasons, not the least of which was that our two girls refuse to sleep in the same bed together! So we were hauling an air mattress down and then they'd fight about who slept where.

Personally, with only one child, I'd go for the 1BR and make the points go further.

hey I am even cheaper - go for a studio - mom and dad in the queen bed - your daughter on the sleeping sofa....

especially if you are hiting the parks every day - WDW can be very tiring!!!

sometimes children sleep better when the parents are closer - some times not - just depends upon the kids - you know your child the best!!!

3 in a 1 bedroom will be just fine (even a studio) take the extra day not the extra bedroom. Glad to see your concern about enough room for 3, some guests want to put 5 or 6 in a 1 bedroom:crazy:

We just came back from our first visit. We booked two ressies, 3 days in a dedicated 2br, then left for the w/e and returned to a 2 br (1br/studio combo). We were considering another add on to our 200 pts, but wanted to trial the accomodations, to see what would fit best with us. Two parents and two teens had AMPLE room in just a 1 br. But, when my DD, SIL and 2 grndkids joined us and took over the lockoff studio... things got a bit crowded in the living room, esp when someone wanted to crash on the sofabed.

My teens LOVED the privacy the 2nd bedroom afforded them, along with their own bathroom... but I think it might be scary for a 6 year old.. too far from the master bedroom, too many doors. The floorplan is a bit confusing, and could be nightmarish to a young person if they woke up disoriented. They could easily end up in the hallway outside. It would be very hard to hear if anything was amiss from the master bedroom. To us, the 2nd br was just too isolated from the main living area/ master bedroom.

There is very little difference between the second bedrrom and a lockoff studio except the lockoff has another exit/entrance to the hallway. Also, the lock off, can be LOCKED OFF.. meaning one may not be able to access it from the 1br should the deadbolt be thrown.. We didn't have a problem, even though the grandson (age 3) was facinated by the doors, but we kept the key to the outside door handy should he lock himself in (or his 6 yr old sister lock him out !)

Guess I just can't encourage using a 2 br for your family until DD is older.

We did learn something else though that you might want to consider. We first arrived on Tuesday noon, and things went incredibly smoothly when checking in. Rooms were ready, adequate staffing, etc... just a very pleasurable experience to be "welcomed home" too. THEN we tried checking in on Sunday along with the rest of the nation and things did NOT go smoothly. Course we came back at 10 am (like idiots, not sure what we were expecting) but put the bags in storage along with a hundred bucks in groceries.. came back from Typhoon L at 530 and the rooms still weren't ready.. by the time we got to our rooms, they did find our luggage, but lost the groceries. When we did finally find them, of course the perishables were not refrigerated as asked (even had them in different colored bags so bell services could distinguish them).. Long story to short.. Sunday checkins are probably the most popular, try arrive late, or better yet, arrive on Monday.

And, welcome home... there is nothing like it!

Thank you so much for all of your responses! Can the CM look to see if there is 1br availability without giving up the 2br? I would hate to lose my week b/c of this! Now that it is so close, what would be my chances of getting a 1br? I guess I should have asked this in my first post! Didn't think about it until all the responses.
This is such a great group!

Depends upon what you booked I guess.. if you booked a 2br with lockoff.. should be no problem releasing the attached studio. A dedicated 2br might be another story.. I would call MS today! Good Luck!!

If all else fails, ask you daughter what she thinks. I (vaugely) remember being that age, and thinking that sofa beds were the greatest. Maybe it's just a "guy thing", but you never know.

Tell her that getting the smaller room (and I use the term "smaller room" loosely) means you can extend your stay by a day or two and I bet she'll have no objections.

A 1BR would be fine. At both resorts (HH and VB) that we have been (myself, DW, DS3 and DS5), we have truly enjoyed the 1BR.

pumpkinboy mentioned this discount which I've seen mentioned before, but know nothing about. How much does it amount to, or is it variable? Does it apply only to DVC lodging, or any Disney property? Do you get a better discount at your home resort? Thanks from the uninformed. (I've only owned for a year, but maybe I need to spend more time in this forum!)

You have one problem with the 2 bedroom that being is the 6 year old going to be able to sleep all alone in the second bedroom. A one bedroom is really going to be the same situation only the child will be sleeping in the living room. I never thought of this that much but a studio oddly enough would suit a couple with one small child better than a one or two bedroom-the young child will be sleeping in the same room with the parents that way.
