DD 4 has asthma. She started in with stuff coming out of her nose on friday. I called and got antibodtics. She is now in coughing and sneezing. We fly out Weds, for thrusday's wonder.
I have non refundable airline ticket's, however I do have cancellation insurance on the actual trip.

I called Disney. They said I can rebook, cancel or take my chances on getting on board.

1) won't risk daughter's health
2) nor anyone else's
3) Should I cancel and wait till April when we have a 7 day planned
4) Should I cancel and go in Dec
how cold is water?
5) should we use our airline tickets and go to WDW.

I am sure she will just be a non contagious cough by weds.
I know that going to WDW is a winner. However, not what I wanted for my birthday. I wanted white sand and a cool drink on the beach.

What to do and when do I decide????? BTW I am hauling the kid to the doctor's tomorrow. Plus we leave to go to California on the 21st for a week. All this has to be weighed.

Opinions please?

Hi There -
I hope I can be of some help. This question has come up a few times this fall. Sounds like your daughter has a nasty cold, but luckily it does not appear to be the Flu or Norwalk. I have heard lots of positives about Zicam, which can be purchased in your local drug store - and they have it in childrens form. It is supposed to reduce the length of colds and clear up the symptoms. I would see what the Doc says tomorrow, but you might want to try a dose of Zicam before that and see what happens.

As for rescheduling, I commend you for thinking of not only your own family but also others. At the same time however, I think if she takes some sort of cold medicine, she should be fine in a few days. I think you should still plan on cruising, unless your doctor tells you that this is more than a simple cold.

Good luck!!!!

Your cruise is 4 days away, that is a long time for a snotty nose. Personally if it was me, I would take to the drs tomorrow and do what they tell you to. IF by chance you would get prescriptions for meds, they should be well into effect before then.

Good luck

Kathy

I would not worry too much, if it is bacterial it will take about 24 hours for them to take effect, she would also be non contagious at that point. If it is viral then it simply has to run it's course. I swear by Zicam it really works wonders, I would get some TODAY and have her use it every four hours. I would also recommend getting some ear plugs for her if she is going to swim since water in the ears when a little one gets a cold often leads to an ear infection, check with the doctor and see if she can use some afrin and sudefed before flying so if her ears are congested they won't be painful. DS ALWAYS gets sick right before we go away, whether it be strep throat, ear infection etc.. I now call the doctor a week before we leave just to get him checked out. I think she should be fine, the heat of the bahamas will be helpful too. :)

Thanks everyone! I did purchase the Zicam. She seems better this morning. I had started her on amoxcillin on friday. I am getting a sore throat and started the Zicam.

I am taking the little one to the doctor this am. Disney Cruise told me to bring a note if she was coughing even a little.

Good for you, glad youns are feeling better already!

Happy Cruising!

Softfluff - from your post it sounds like even a slight cold (adult or child) could be cause to have DCL not allow someone onboard. Is this true? I would completely understand flu or viral issues, but colds are so common during the winter time. Wow! Can somone confirm this?

When I went in April, they had a family checking in next to me see the nurse. I later I saw the woman in the port area out they had been rerouted to WDW. (we had gotten to the port very early) Perhaps because it was so close to the Norwalk scare.

I was told by the cruise line to have my doctor write a note clearing her. I took her in this afternoon, he said it was safe for her to fly and go on the cruise. He wrote a note clearing her and said it would do her good to be in the warm weather.

Thanks everyone for your help!!!

A bit confused...if your daughter has asthma antibiotics or Zicam are not the proper medications. And asthma is not contagious...so there would be no risk to other passengers. I'm probably reading your post incorrectly, so I apologize if i'm missing something.

Asthma does not cause runny nose or sore throat. Colds OTOH do frequently trigger asthma. Antibiotics will not help the cold either unless there is a secondary bacterial infection, unlike in the early stages. Hopefully this little girl is on some type of treatment for her asthma like inhalers or at the least has the appropriate oral meds just in case. Allergies are also a consideration for many in this situation. Hopefully it will work out, sounds likely that it will. Good luck to softfluff.
