Hoping to take the kids to Disney in Feb to celebrate the kids birthdays. Right now flights are really expensive out of Ohare. The winter discount will be out soon and was planning on booking. Problem now is with flights being so expensive-what happens if they don't come down. We were really hoping to do the trip from feb 22-March 1 so we would only have to take the son out of school for 4 days. (They have a teacher institute day). Anyway I have tried looking around for airfare even with flexible dates but no matter what I do Flights are pricey. Should I just go ahead and book the dates for Disney that we plan to be there and hope airfare comes down. Usually before we book Disney, our airfare is all figured out. Never had to pay more then $250 a ticket before. My worry is I book Disney with the discount and then airfare prices do come down on alternate dates and the reservations won't match up. Any suggestions.

You can always cancel the disney reservations up to 45 days out. I would book Those and then keep track of pricing for flights each day.

I always make airfare first once the discounts come out for WDW unless it's a time I'm SURE there will be a discount. I think you are OK on your dates but the 1st week of March is rumored to be potentially blacked out and not sure starting from what date. By Oct 8 the discount should be out and then you can take it from there. I don't wait too long on airfare because there are only a few flights out of either DC airport in the afternoon/evening that are non-stop but maybe that isn't an issue for you guys. It helps us minimize on missing school and maximize on time in the parks our last day.

Dates are
January 5 - April 12 for room discounts

January 5 - March 5 for stay play and dine

We are going Feb 20-Mar 1st. We paid $302pp RT for our airfare - but the pricey date is the Saturday return. Come home on the Friday and you could save $50-60/pp.

Book under the discount you want for 14 nights (the maximum, at least for free dining offers (so, I'm just guessing it will be the same for discount RO and SPD); someone can correct me), leaving some days on either side of the start/end dates you are hoping to arrive/depart.

Once you have your airfare, call back Disney and shorten the number of days (cut off days from the start and the end of your reservation).

Just make sure to mark your calendar well before Disney's deadline to cancel, in case the flights never work out for you.

Good luck!

A lot of people where I live in KY fly from a smaller airport into Sanford, FL. (SFB). I have flown Allegiant into there before. The only drawback is that it is about 45 minutes from the parks and no Magical Express. The tickets tend to be very reasonable though.

We always fly out of Midway on Southwest instead of flying out of O'Hare. Southwest doesn't charge a fee if you change your flights. They often advertise sales on Tuesdays and if a flight you booked earlier goes on sale, you can rebook and get the lower price with a credit to use later. Southwest flights on Sundays are more expensive, so avoid flying that day. I have seen flights as low as $99 one way n Southwest to Orlando. Flights on Saturdays tend to be a lot less expensive than a flight on a Sunday on Southwest.
