I have been give 5 pounds of croutons! Other than adding them to a salad I have no idea what to do with them. Does anybody have any recipe suggestions? Maybe a casserole that has a crouton base or something? THANKS!

If they're not seasoned you can make bread pudding.

If they are seasoned, get out a rolling pin, a plastic zip loc and voila with a little muscle power you've got bread-crumbs. Store them in a glass jar and they'll be good for months. You can then make things like meatloaf, casseroles, breaded chicken, etc.

Make a homemade mac 'n cheese and toss the croutons in some melted butter (the real stuff) pour them on top and bake. Yummy!

You can top soup with them too. That's a lot of croutons!!!!

homemade chicken nuggets
add to tomato soup
crush and mix with cheese and make baked mac and cheese
meatballs
bird food

My kids like to eat them right out of the bag - like a snack. I could totally use 5 lbs of croutons. They'd be gone in a week! :goodvibes

Put them in smaller bags and freeze them.

Yep I have ground them up and used them as bread crumbs to coat chicken cutlets when I am out of everything else and they were pretty tasty. As far as a casserole-- what about mac and cheese topping. Really just think of them as a bread crumb substitute.

I just saw Rachel Ray chop them up and add to something . . . I would think you could use it to coat about any type of meat. But being a Disney board . . . When I first read your post this is what came to mind.

Marry Poppins

Enjoy finding new ways to use them!

I was going to say the same thing about putting them in a bag and smashing them. Then get some chicken breasts and dip in a egg/butter/water/oil mixture and then dip in smashed croutons. Then bake the chicken.

You can make Breakfast Casserole. My family loves this!

Breakfast Casserole
1 box of croutons
6 eggs
2 cups milk
1 or 1 1/2 lbs. breakfast sausage in roll (I use 1 lb)
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 can cream of mushroom or cream of celery soup (I use cream of celery)
1/4 cup milk

Use a 9x13 pan lightly greased.
Prepare the night before and refrigerate. (I also make in the morning and eat for supper).

Spread croutons on bottom of 9x13 pan. Mix eggs and milk. Cook sausage, drain. Spread sausage on top of croutons. Pour eggs and milk over top. Spread shredded cheese on top. Refrigerate.

Next morning, mix cream of mushroom/celery soup and 1/4 cup milk and spread over cheese.
Cook approx. 1 hr. at 350 degrees.

Hope you like it, we do! :)
