What to do with these gifts?

I have many unopened gifts from my wedding. Most things are items we didn't register for or things we thought we wanted but realized we would never use. We would like to de-clutter, as well as possibly make some $ for our next Disney trip. As stated, these are un opened items, so we would hate to see them go at garage sale prices! Examples of some items are crystal bowls, vases, picture frames, coffee/capiccunno maker,etc. What are your suggestions at selling these items to get the best profit? We have never sold anything online, so we are unfamiliar with how that works or the best places to sell. Any suggestions would be helpful!!

If you want to make a profit you need to do the work to research what the value of the items are and then decide if you want to list them yourself with an auction site or craigslist ect.

If you want to simply declutter then look to see if any groups are having a sale (church rummage, boy scouts, fundraising events) or donate to a charity like AMVETS, salvation army, goodwill...and use the tax deduction if you itemize

There may also be consignment shops that will take your items and you earn a percentage of the profit but these tyoes of stores vary depending on where you live...

We have sold on craigslist at higher prices than what we would get at garage sale.....I don't work and would meet people in a public place such as Walmart.
I also got so many duplicates of things we just took them to where we registered and see if they were from there such as Target they can tell if they were brought from their store and we got it back in store credit. I would start at the places where you registered. If it is a unique item and you don't want it take pics and put on craigslist.

If your preference is to sell the things, you could check ebay. Look at the closed auctions for the items you have to sell to see whether it is worth your while to go to the trouble to sell them (for example, packaging crystal to ensure that it reaches its destination safely).

Ah, just a reminder not to give items such as picture frames and crystal vases for gifts - they should stopped being made, and everyone could just re-gift them to the next generations!

ebay will get you the best profit but will be the most time consuming. Craigslist will bring out the crazies and you will need to be careful but will be a little easier than ebay. To be honest, the chatchkies wont bring much unless they are high quality (lenox, lalique, waterford) or collectibles. You might do well to garage sale them and get whatever you can. The small appliances might be expensive to ship so if you do ebay make sure that you dont underestimate the costs.

Just because it has been 2 years doesn't mean it can't be returned. Have your tried? The only thing is you will get the lowest price the item has ever sold at over the last 2 years. Which will still be more than a garage sale. Some people save the items and "regift" them as shower gifts. (I know...that's an entire other thread.)

I agree try to take them back to a store. The bar code is all they scan. It could still come up in a stores computer. I once took back a 80 dollar blinder someone had sent me. Years later.

What at Dillard's...most of the crystal is from Dillard's and they have the bar code and the yellow tag?

If you cannot take them back to the store (worth trying! I have with Home Depot 2 years later), then I go with the online options.

I often sell either unused/unopened items, second-hand kids clothes, and toys through my local Kijijii and Craigslist sites with much success! Much better prices than a garage sale!

Research the items you are selling. List them with photos and detailed description and a good price. Check what other people are selling the same items for (and how much retail). I quote the retail price + tax for a total and then state my asking price. I find I get more success that way.

Maybe I have just been lucky (knock-on-wood!) but I have done this for almost 6 years now, and never had a problem. I let people come to my house, or sometimes hubby might offer to drop off an item on his way home from work.

Ebay. Just search in the completed listings to see what similar items are selling for and list them. Pictures of the items are a must.

Try to return them anyway. If it's something the store still sells, they may accept the return for store credit. The worst thing that can happen is they say no. Don't say anything about how long it's been. Just walk up and say I'd like to return these . . . but I wouldn't expect to get cash for them.

Regift them. If you're invited to a wedding, need a gift for a graduation, etc, they might be perfect.

Sell on Craigslist, or Ebay.

First, you have no guarantee of what you'll make unless you set a minimum...which, at least in the past, was more expensive. Plus, I had strange issues with paypal...as in, they refunded a payment for Wiggles tickets I sold without ever contacting me about it. Yes, they went into my checking account and gave the buyer back her $90! She is the one who contacted me...wondering why she'd gotten her money back when she'd already received and used the concert tickets. She wanted me to go thru my bank rather than sending me cash. The end story: she got $110 worth of Wiggles tickets for free!

In addition to that, you may find that packing and shipping end up eating up most of what you make on the items if you ebay them. Since most of what you have is fragile, you won't be able to just chuck things in envelopes...you'll need boxes, filler, insurance, etc.

I say, try Craig's List first. Meet in public places. If your prices are firm, say so and stick with it. People there always try to get me to lower prices that were fair to start with.
