What to do with the luggage tags?

We received our cruise documents including luggage tags. Instructions say to put them on the bags before we fly down and to retrieve our bags in Miami at baggage claim. Why do we need to put the tags on when we have to claim the bags ourselves? We are flying in the night before our cruise. We have paid for transfers in the morning to and from the port in Miami, is that when the tags need to be on the bags? When do we actually give our checked bags to Disney? 1st cruise and a bit confused !!
Thanks for all help and advice.

DO NOT put them on at the airport. on my last cruise there was a couple who did that however they were staying for a few nights at wdw first. the documents said to put the tags on before their flights so they did. their bags were taken ath the airport and stored till their cruise so they had access to nothing. they were mad, to put it nicely.

put the tags on when you give your bags to disney and not before if you are not going directly from the airport to your curise. as i have never cruised from miami i can't say how they take the luggage however i would think you gives it to them at the port. put the tags on then. i'm sure someone who has cruised from miami will pop onto the thread soon.
have a great cruise.

Maybe it makes a difference if you have ground transfers on the reservation. Mine says, "Since you haven't included ground transfers in your plans so far, place your luggage tags on your bags just prior to arriving at the Port of Miami cruise terminal." Are you using DCL ground transfers?

Yes, we are using DCL transfers the next morning. It makes sense to me to put the tags on when we leave the airport hotel as we will need our bags over night. It seems their directions are not very clear and we do not want our bags to go straight into storage from the airplane when we need them overnight. Why would they tell us to put the tags on before our flight and then also tell us to retrieve our bags from the baggage claim? Anyone else?

The only thing I can think of is that you didn't tell them that you are arriving the day before. Only that you are taking transfers from the airport on embarkation day.

If they think you are arriving (at the airport) the day you are taking the transfers, you would put your tags on before you check your bags to fly. Then DCL gathers them and takes them to the ship.

Since you are arriving the day before, do NOT put the tags on before you fly. Just claim your bags at the airport and take them to your hotel. Then the next day put the tags on before you check in for your DCL transfers.

Totally agree with Princess Shmoo. DCL must think you are coming in day of cruise.

Agree--no matter what DCL thinks, put your DCL tags on the day you leave the hotel and board the ship.
