What to do with Southwest Credits???

I have Southwest credits that will be expiring in April that I can't use (my next vaction is booked for May... figures). What have you done in the past with expiring Southwest credits that you can't use. I know I can't sell them on ebay. Has anyone had success with Craigslist? If so, how does that work? How can the person getting them from you verify the amount? TIA

You can call them and see if they will extend the credits. I had mine extended for 3 months. I had to pay a small fee (don't remember what it was) but I know it was worth it. Good luck.

You can donate them to Make A Wish or another charity.

I just changed a flight and ended up with credit for my Southwest flight and the rep told me that after a certain date in January (I can't remember exactly) that the credits cannot be used by anyone other than the original purchaser

I did call them before posting here on Dis. They can be extended, but it would cost me $150.00 (not worth it).

you must give them away by--and they must use them by.

Not sure if you were replying to me or someone else, but if it was me... yes and no.

My credit is good until January 28th for anyone to use and the flight must occur on or before April 1st.

After January 28th, I can be the only one to use the credit, but the flight still must occur on or before April 1st.

My question was more geared towards what to do with these credits since I personally can't use them. It kills me to have that much credit and not be able to use it.

I don't have frequent flier miles. I have Southwest credits. The credit was due to booking flights then those flights went down in price. Southwest will give you credits for the difference in price.

So if I have a southwest credit from my flight being overbooked and me volunteering to be bumped, cant I use that to purchase a ticket for anyone? or is this January rule going to come into play????

Southwest is instituting a new rule ahtat as of Jan 28th all ticketless travel funds needs to be used by the person who the funds were originally for.

That person was not correct. We had credits and we bought a ticket with the credit for someone else to come visit us the week before Thanksgiving. Call and ask again.

Actually, that person WAS correct. Southwests rules are changing as of January 28. Until that date, anybody can use anybody else's credits. As fo that date, credits can only be used by the person for whom the original ticket was purchased.

In a sense what was posted wasn't totally right because it's not the purchaser who gets to use the credits but rather the ticketed passenger. I wish it was the purchaser because I'm the purchaser for all flights in my family. I paid for tickets for extended family to join us on our upcoming trip but if I don't figure out a use for the credits before January 28 I can't use them (I'll make sure they know about the credits if I don't figure anything out by that date because I'd hate for them to get wasted).

I don't have a good answer for you, but I feel your pain. I'm in a similar situation with credits for 3 passengers that I can't use & I'm not really sure what to do. It feels like I'm throwing money away.

We had credit from 3 of us and combined them to buy a cheap ticket to a place we had no intention of really flying. We plan on canceling/using that credit later for a ticket to MCO. This was the only way we could figure on not losing the credit.

can this be done? purchase a SW ticket for a future date,using the credits,before the 'change' date,and then if necessary,changing travel dates or something on the ticket? is this allowable? I'm in the same boat,and would like to use them for a family member,but not sure of her schedule right yet... are there penalties for doing this?

I think the credits will still expire. I had this problem-have a $216 credit on SW that expires 3/1/11, went to book a flight for May 11 and the computer wouldn't take the conf # of the credit, stating it would expire before the flight. So, you have to fly with the credit before the expiration date I believe.
