My Mom and Dad were cleaning and organizing and my Mom wanted to throw away a bunch of old records-45's and then a bunch of albums.

I told them not to toss them.

Any suggestions on what to do with them?

You can always find people willing to buy them, but generally they're dealers and won't give you diddly for them. I would hold on to them. You never know when they're going to be alot more valuable.

If you don't want to keep them I would check with a local store to see how much they are worth. Some are worth a lot of money. Then there is always E-bay too.

definitely do not throw them away.

I had a whole bunch of 45's and albums when I was a teenager and my Mom sold them in a yard sale. Now I really wish that I had them back.

Got any good stuff from the 70's, like Partridge Family, Bobby Sherman etc.?

You could probably advertise them somewhere and sell them, or just keep them for sentimal value.

(Just a little tip - NEVER, never, never throw away your teenage diary....boy, am I ever kicking myself over that one )

People with jukeboxes are always looking for 45's. Other than that, there isn't much of a market for vinyl records. In most cases, album covers are worth more as art than are the records that they contain. You might try selling them at a local flea market. If all else fails, you can donate them to a church rummage sale and (maybe) take a writeoff on your taxes.

Check ebay for prices. There are also books at the library that will give you prices. My DD, 17, is looking for a turntable so she can play our old vinyl. My DB has a lot of 78's at his house and the turntable we have is only a two speed. Vinyl is becoming popular with some of the kids. Hot Topic even has some vinyl available.

Thanks for the suggestions.

A lot of them are mine-Michael Jackson, Shaun Cassidy, etc. but there are also a lot my parents bought.

I told my Dad to put them away and we will go through them some day. It should be fun just to sit and listen to them!

Sounds like a good plan to me. Enjoy the memories :D

You keep them and cherish the memories.

And you also torture your kids with the music.
