I received the Nikon D7000 for Christmas. Not sure what to do with my D60? Should I keep it as a back-up or try and trade it in or sell it?

Best Buy was offering $199 gift card for the trade in.

What does everyone do when they upgrade?

Thanks

I am quite sure you could get close to double that on ebay from just looking at completed listings of used D60s.

I would be inclined to sell it.

I keep my stuff because I'm a packrat and most of my gear has some kind of sentimental attachment for me. But if you want to sell quick check out KEH.com.

Kenny, do you have any children?

I plan on passing down my D40 to DD4 when I upgrade. I already started this tradition when I purchased the D40 and handed down the old P&S when she was still 2. At her age and height she comes up with some great shots. I've even taken her on a couple photo-walks.

PS. Danielle, I also get attached to stuff too.

I kept my older model DSLR when I upgraded. I had to send my body in with some lenses for calibration this fall, and I was very happy to have a backup on hand to fill the void.

I offered it to my wife but she prefers a PnS. I have two girls, 7 and 2. Thought about giving it to the oldest but it is too big for her. She used to take pictures with me with it but for her own personal use a PnS would be much more practical. Figured by the time she is old enough to want it there will be much better entry level camera's on the market.

Will have to check out ebay and KEH.

Keep it as a backup. If one breaks, you can still use the other.

I've gone from (all Canon) A2 (film) to EOS 1 (Also film), D60, 20D and a pair of 40Ds. I also have a G5 and received a G12 for Christmas. Of all those cameras, I still have all of them except the two A2s I had. Those I sold on consignment at my local camera store.

For a while, my wife used the D60, but prefers the Sony P&S she got out of the lost and found at her work. Of all of the cameras I still have, I think I'd be most likely to get rid of the 20D and the G5. The D60, while an older camera, has one of the quietest shutters I've ever seen on an SLR camera. That's reason enough to keep it. The 20D has a lot more actuations than any of my other cameras and wouldn't be worth much on the resale market...

I have sold my previous camera. It was a Canon Digital rebel, worked fine and I saw no reason to keep it after dh gave me the T3i. I sold it with a basic lens. I've never had an issue with my cameras so I saw no reason to keep it for anything. :) HTH.

Craigslist, eBay, KEH (I generally go in that order). Usually you'll get a few bucks less on Craigslist than eBay, but selling local usually works pretty well and pretty quickly for me. And no eBay \ PayPal fees. eBay tends to drive the price a little higher, but then you have to deal with shipping, which for some items can be a pain. KEH is usually my last resort for selling as they are usually 50% of what I can get out of gear elsewhere (same with Best Buy).

We just got a pair of new phones from Best Buy, they offered $35 for my better half's BlackBerry Tour (mint condition) and $80 for my HTC EVO, also mint condition. I will get near $200 out of my EVO on eBay (due to the included accessories) and ~$90 out of her Blackberry.

Right now on my local Craigslist there is a body only D60 listed for $320, a D60 w/ kit for $325 and a D60 w/ 55-200 and Nikon bag listed for $525. That last one is probably a bit high, but then again EVERYONE on Craigslist will try to haggle you down. I don't think I have ever had a single person want to pay my asking price, which is always a very fair price. Consider pricing it a little higher so that when you haggle down, you actually get what you want for it.

The D7K has proven to be pretty reliable thus far. Unless you have a genuine need for a second body or a son or daughter that has a budding interest in photography that can use it right now, sell it. DSLR bodies, especially entry level models, depreciate in value quite rapidly.

I agree Craig's List is a far better way to go. Too many ways for a buyer to scam a seller with ebay and/or Paypal.

And I recently sold a lens on Craig's List for the asking price. I had some lowball offers, but just priced it fairly and was up front and told people I was only selling it if I got the asking price.

I did the same thing. My DD had a D40. Now my DD is 13, wins photo contests, oil paints, and I get the leftovers as she grabs my L glass and full frame. What we do for our kids.

I need to pull out the D40 manual.
