Hi all! I was wondering if anyone could help me and my family. We have been to WDW 4 times and we planned our 1st ever trip to Disneyland and California before Disney started to announce all of these closings. Everything on the river, Autotopia, haunted mansion, jungle cruise, splash, Soaring, Grizzly, ALADDIN! and Fantasmic Now my family is regretting the decision. Any Ideas of what to do in Disney or The surrounding area? We will be in California from Jan 18 to -25th. Even world of color is closed now. !

Not feeling any magic for Disneyland Anymore! Please help

I just checked the calendar. WOC will run on the 18th. Soarin will be open on the 23rd & 24th, Haunted Mansion is open on the 22nd....and I don't see Splash or GRR on the list for refurbishment during your dates. My first trip to DL in 2010 had nothing operating on the river. All boarded up and the ROA was drained. Fantastic always seems to be closed in January/February. I am sure you will still have a fantastic time. Just make sure you hit those two attractions in DCA on those dates and it will be good. This will be my 5th trip to DL.... and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has never been open. Have a great trip!

I went last year for the first time at the end of February. There were tons of refurbs at the time to get ready for the 60th. Although I was bummed to miss out on some things, I spent 5 very full days at the parks without ever feeling bored. There is so much to do. Having done WDW a bunch I understand that it might seem like a lot of rides closed, but DL has so many more rides than any park at WDW. If Epcot closed 6 rides and 2 shows, yes. That's a waste of time. But at DLR? Nope! Enjoy your trip. You'll love it. I'm a DLR convert now.

Where are you staying? You may want to enjoy some resort time as well. Lots of people flying west take a day to go to the San Diego zoo. Lots to do in California!

We are staying at the Grand California. We were not sure about driving in California but i was reading that the mas transit is good there. Traveling is me, my husband and our 13 year old son

we took the Metro 460 from Disneyland to Knotts Berry Farm and Medieval Times in Buena Park, if you want to take a break from the DLR.
There's lots to do in DL we just wanted to see other areas too.
The Grayline tours will pick you up from your hotel and do tours- we did a day at Universal.

You'll definitely want to take some resort time in too! The Grand is amazing, great pools (although weather is chilli right now), lots of fun places to explore. Enjoy!

You will love staying at the Grand and you are going to LOVE DL even with the closures. Did you put in a request for a park view room?

Thanks for the bus info. We are taking the Greyline from LAX and it's nice to know they do tours also.

We are DVC members and only have a small selection of views so we have courtyard/ woods view, but I'm looking forward to the quiet view.

That is not half the parks - sorry but many of those have little to no interest in me - I just checked Jan 23rd and the following are down:
  • Mark Twain Riverboat
  • Sailing Ship Columbia
  • Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes
  • Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island
  • Jungle Cruise
  • Autopia
  • Fantasmic!
  • Disneyland Railroad
The only ones we'd miss is maybe Fantasmic and the Railroad can come in handy when you want to get to another part of the park quickly. Other than that I'd not bat an eye at those refurbs especially given it's January and most of them have to do with water, well except Autopia but that is a yawn fest for us. I honestly think you will have a blast as there are so many great rides that blow all of those right out of the water!! Trust me, there is a lot to do!!

Thank you! That helps. It's nice to here form others that have gone that it wont seem to matter.

I totally agree! I do like Tom Sawyer Island on a busy day to give the kids a chance to run around, but most of those attractions are things I haven't done in YEARS. Most of the boat rides on the river are kind of "extra capacity" attractions that are just kind of there as something to do if the lines get long. It is a bummer to miss Fantasmic! as it is so much better at DLR, but really, for the most part the things that are closed are totally worth missing. Jungle Cruise is always a favorite, so that will be a bummer, but I bet you hardly notice it, there will be so many other things to do!

Haha, there's not one thing on that list that I care about lol There would have to be a LOT more closed at either parks for me to ever consider not visiting.
