My 10 yr old is VERY picky. He likes chicken strips, but not chicken nuggets (something my hubby once teased him.. about lips and ahems in nuggets..thanks dad :sad2: ) anyway he HATES burgers, likes seafood, steak, pork chops, salad (just lettuce and cheese) baked potatoes, NO VEGGIES :guilty: and some fruits.

Seriously. He likes what he likes and wont touch it otherwise.

I love the way Disney creates their food, but...what do you do when your kid wants a fish dinner seasoned NOT spicy with a baked potato (he wont touch mashed potatoes..go figure) he will do french fries. He loves boiled shrimp but it cant be spiced..just plain. He loves lobster.

Is it impossible for him to order off the adult menu with his pickiness? Do most places have hidden french fries or baked potatoes, or is mashed just what most have? What about ordering without all the garnishments, greenery, pretty dolaps of this or that on the plate. PLAIN. really...PLAIN.

i know he can order of the kiddy menu, but really, he usually likes adult food, not nuggets, burgers, etc, but just PLAIN....and baked potatoes.

sigh. I can just see it now. We'd like the lobster with drawn butter. NO parsely, with french fries. :rolleyes2

Are the kitches/chef's that accomadating?

Sounds alot like me. :rotfl2:

I like plain, simple american cuisine, and my tastes are pretty similar to your son. :teeth: Except I hate seafood and like certain vegetables.

I don't see why chefs would have a problem with preparing something less fancy. If anything, it should be easier for them.

i'm sure all the food tastes wonderful, but its almost over kill. Almost all restaurants have sauces over everything! Even steak! I'm from Texas...steak stands alone here baby! The most you would put on a steak in Texas is a bit of butter and some mushrooms..and thats pushing it!

I wish i could find more places that had lobster and crab legs on plan, that dont take 2 TS.

Concourse had baked potato (even if not on menu). Ditto Olivia's.

In most places, you can get the sauces on the side (or not at all.) You can skip the buffets--no "special" there except for allergy needs.

Sounds to me that you're much better off now that he's ordering off the regular menus. The table-service places will honor any special requests they can, including varying the spiciness for things that are prepared fresh. For counter-service meals, just choose among those that have what he wants.

wow he knows what he wants doesnt he ??? I have never run into a problem anywhere if i request something special..you shouldnt worry about it..i mean he might be eating the same thing over and over but they will accomodate him..and if not..he will ge hungry enough he will eat something.. :teeth:

Hehe... I was thinking the same thing. At 10, he's old enough to make the decision whether he'll eat what is offered, or go hungry. :)

Thats the problem, he is ADHD and on meds that greatly reduces his appetite, hence he is 9 1/2 and only wieghs 52lbs. We have started not giving his meds to him on weekends (he is a terror but a sweet terror) and he eats more. However on vacation we want him to enjoy himself and not be on overload so we would like to give him his meds, but dont want him to starve lol.

Good to know they are so accomodating. he can survive off meat and salads, if its meat he likes. CS seems to NOT be a problem as the foods are plain and he does like chicken fingers and ham and cheese sandwiches.

He even hates mac and cheese!

He can definately order off the adult menu, ask for everything plain and see what happens. He won't be paying childrens prices though.

Disney is usually very accommodating. I have a GD whose as picky as they come. At Ohana she wouldn't eat anything and they made here up a childs dish (fries and chicken strips) AT Biergarten same thing. The chef made her up a special basket of food and brought it to the table. Then invited her and her brother to the kitchen when they were finished eating to help decorate cookies.

I've never had a problem at any restaurants. We may not like the food there serving and that can happen in many of the restaurants. We all have certain taste, but I have found Disney is willing to go that little extra mile for you. I heard so may complaints about the poor service. I've had my share of poor servers, have also had some that are outstanding. They are very busy and I can understand deal with the public on a daily basis can be difficult. Over all most of my experiences has been good to excellent.

52 lbs at 9.5 yrs old?! My goodness he must be one tiny little boy. Here mine is at 5 and weighs 50 lbs.

As far as eating at WDW, they will be more than helpful in getting him food that he will eat. My son is actually alot like yours. He'll eat Salads, but hates vegetables. Doesn't eat Macaroni and Cheese, especially at WDW. He loves Steak, Shrimp, etc. However mine won't eat potatos of any kind, except french fries.

My daughter is 8(almost 9) and also only 50 pounds. She is one of the taller in her class- and thin for sure- but not unhealthy thin, just thin. I would think you will have no problem ordering for him at most of the table service restaurants. Oh and you are in luck with chicken strips not nuggets- almost all of the CS serve the strips. Colombia House in MK serves a HUGE serving of them enough to share. hmm and I think they even had a baked potato? They used to have that yummy yummy potato cart in England at Epcot but then it disappeared during low carb times...... oh they were yummy

I am sorry I didn't mean my comment to come across as I thought the OP's child (or anyone else's) was unhealthy thin. I just have a very tall, and thick 5 yr old little boy. He is not overweight by any means, he is just built kind of big. So it is hard for me to imagine a 9 or 10 yr old weighing the same as him.

:) My 8 yo is 33 lbs even.....and for various reasons very picky as well - there's NO problem finding foods for ANYBODY at Disney - picky, kosher, veggie, food allergies - Disney will do whatever they need to do to make sure everybody has something they can and will eat.

You should have no problem at all getting foods plain. I've ordered plain penne with sauce at the Concourse Steakhouse.

I was probably only about 50 pounds at 9. I'm 20 now and I don't even weigh 100 pounds.

You should not have difficulty at all finding foods that your son will eat. Most chicken is strips, not nuggets. All extra sauces and spices usually can be omitted if you ask.
