What to do with a handful of points?

I am beyond my banking window with a Dec use year. A waitlist list just came through for an October trip, which saved me 3 whole points. But because I can't bank them, I can't really do anything with them. Is it worth trying to offer them for transfer? With the one transfer per use year rule, I'm not sure if there would be much interest in such a small transfer.

Thoughts?

Try the transfer.
. Realize that you're going to loss a few over the next 40+ years.
If you insurance points the value is your dues, so $7.00ish a point. So you lost $20.00

Giving that both owners now need to do a 3 way call with MS I think it might be difficult to find someone who wants to go through that trouble for just 3 points.

Id probably just let them go.

Since I've only been a DVC member for a couple years and never have transferred points, can you explain how both owners now need to do a 3-way call? Was that not the case before? When did it change?

Thanks for the info!

It seems to have changed in the past 3 to 5 months. Prior to that, all an owner had to do was call, give the other owners membership number and the transfer would happen.

I was not required to do it in 2020 the last time I transferred. Now, the owner calls, and while on the phone with MS, they have to set up a 3 way call with the other owner where Ms goes over the rules to be sure everyone understands.

As I said, with the one in or out per UY, most owners won’t do a transfer for only 3 points. I know with the new process I am not sure I will do it again.

I'm right there with you - I have 13 sad little points in holding that I don't think I'll get to use by the time they expire (December UY), but I have reconciled myself to just letting them go. I did sign myself up for a waitlist for 1 night at AKV in November, so who knows, maybe I'll get an unexpected surprise! I also figured that if it comes through and we don't feel like 1 night is worth the drive, it will be easier to rent out the confirmed reservation than trying to find someone who wants to transfer in 13 holding points that are expiring soon.

I converted 3 nights from one view to a cheaper view to “save” points. But now I have 8 extra expiring points and will probably dip into other points to make use of it.
Seems like how I drive the extra distance to save a few bucks on my gas. But a little better. Hehe. I like more nights.

Honestly I would have said I'll take them...but I have 1 point of my own going to waste. Had 103 points that were going to expire because we weren't going to use them and we were able to rent out 102 of them. So now I have 1 point lol. And I used the $ from those points to buy and transfer points in I can use. So I can't even give away the 1 point lol

Even if you just bought the most expensive possible points in the last few months, your cost is 15-16$/point max. I'm just not worried about three points of that. If you want them to go to a worthy cause, I'll take them hah!

I've been lucky enough to manage to find a way to use the points or rent them, Had to borrow points to be able for renter to be able to add one night to their existing reservation. With some effort and persistence, it can be done.
