I just made a spiral ham and have the bone left. I hate to waste it.Please give me some recipes.
I was thinking along the lines of soup, but if you have other ideas I'll take them. Also, can the ham bone be frozen and used later?
Ex- New Orleans girl here. Getting ready to pull out my big pot and make some yummy red beans and rice! The bone really does make it better. I am not sure what the chemistry is but I think the marrow from the bone makes them extra creamy. Also soaking the bone in the beans melts all that connective tissue that holds all the little bits of ham stuck to the bone.I use it when making red beans. Adds quite a bit of flavor.
PINTOS!!! Put it in a crock pot with some pinto beans, cook until the beans are tender...YUMMY....Make some cornbread and fried potatoes and you have a wonderful meal!!!
Can someone post step by step directions on how make red beans and rice.
Epically the rice part. That mess me up every time.
My rice comes out meshy and nasty. I am point now really thinking buy a rice cooker so have fluffy rice.

This sounds really good. Do you use the bag of dried pinto beans or canned?
Rice is easy. Twice as much water as rice. (So if I use 2 cups rice, 4 cups water.)
Some salt and some butter. Heat to a boil, cover and turn down lower. I turn it to 3 or 4 on my stove.
Cook 20 minutes. DO NOT PICK UP THE LID!
Tada.. rice.
Rice is a staple around here. I make it a few times a week.
