I love crab meat, but living in Michigan I don't get it too much. I bought a can of it from trader Joes a few days ago, but really don't know what to do with it.

It is the kind that is refrigerated, it doesn't say what kind (lump back fin etc...) Just 16oz of pasteurized premium crabmeat. Trader Joe, Jack's Catch brand.

I just love lump crab meat at a restaurant, but not sure if I can warm it up and use it that way or if I should make something with it.

Any suggestions?????

Yes, toss it.

(Okay, I'm kidding. I'm vegetarian. ;) )

I expect a little bit of that. It isn't everyone's taste. :)

Of course buying it and tossing it doesn't actually help the vegetarian cause.

I love crabmeat as well. I actually make a really nice crab & cheese dip with it. And i cut up hot dog rolls and bake them in the oven to dip with the crab dip. It is a HUGE hit with anyone we have over. I actually made it for our halloween party and left it just warming in a crock pot and most ppl hung out in there and stood just to be in close proximity. LOL. Sorry, not trying to brag really because i don't cook as often as i should.

My sister in law also makes what we are now calling crab muffins. its another cheese and crab meat mixture on muffins...you know cut up bite size for a nice appetizer. Those are great as well.

There is lots of stuff. I actually mixed it into a homemade alfredo sauce and made my very own crabmeat alfredo. I LOVE ALFREDO!!!

Hope that helps.

Have A Magical Day!

Cold crab salad with little pasta shells. Yum!!

Crab Alfredo.

Or make some kind of dip with it. A friend of mine used to take canned crab meat and mix it with cream cheese, then pour cocktail sauce over it, and serve it with crackers. It looked ugly, but it was delicious.

Yummy, anyone have any good recipes or directions?

I love crab cakes, but ones that don't have a lot of spice to them.

My mom had a lovely sandwich at a restaurant that was filled with crab salad (like tuna salad.) I would imagine you could use it in any dish that you normally would use tuna, though honestly I've never used it myself, either. :)

i've added a can of crab meat to cream of shrimp soup

also, just add mayo - instant crab salad!

Crab rangoons are quite easy and that's what I usually use canned crab for. Mix the crab with cream cheese and chopped scallions. Fill wonton wrappers with mixture. Fold over and bake. There is a fairly simple recipe at Kraft Food & Family. Let me see if I can find it.

I have made this before too. Super yummy, and easy. The thing is it is a lot for 2 people. I was thinking something dinner like for DH and I and the girls could have hot dogs. :rotfl:

Crab alfredo, that sounds yummy too.

Maybe I need to do a goggle search and see what I can come up with.

Alex2kMommy, I was thinking about doing that, (just mixing with mayo, I love mayo.) I just made chicken salad that way for lunch.

Yes...here it is:

1 tub (8 oz.) PHILADELPHIA Chive & Onion Cream Cheese Spread
1 can (6 oz.) crabmeat, drained, flaked
30 won ton wrappers
1-1/2 cups oil, for frying
1/3 cup KRAFT Sweet 'N Sour Sauce

MIX cream cheese spread and crabmeat; spoon evenly onto won ton wrappers, adding about 1 tsp. of the crabmeat mixture to each wrapper.
MOISTEN edges of each wrapper with water; fold in half to form triangle. Press edges together to seal.
HEAT oil in medium skillet or wok to 360°F. Add won tons, in batches; cook 1 to 2 min. or until golden brown on both sides, turning once. Remove from skillet with slotted spoon; drain on paper towels. Serve hot with the sweet-and-sour sauce.

LOL. I'm a vegetarian for health reasons anyway. No "cause" here, except for a healthier lifestyle.

Good luck with your crab! I mean that in the nicest possible way. ;)

My favorite thing to do with canned seafood lately is to make a light, thrown together type, pasta dish. It's good hot or cold.

Boil up your favorite pasta, we like bowties or mini penne, to al dente. Do not drain.

In a skillet over a medium heat, add a tablespoon or two of olive oil. Add a pinch of salt, some thyme, basil..onion or shallot if you fell like it. I also like to add a little anchovy paste, but some people have an aversion to it, so do what you gotta do. A touch of white wine or even dry vermouth would be nice at this point, if you want to add it in there. A few chopped up kalamata or green olives are delicious in there, too, as are capers, but not needed. Add drained crab meat. Add 3 or 4 minced cloves of garlic (yes, we like the garlic). Stir and let all warm up for a minute or two. With a slotted spoon, begine transfering pasta to skillet, with the idea being to get a little of the pasta water in the mix. Stir well to coat pasta. Add fresh ground pepper and grated parmesean cheese. Garnish with fresh basil, italian parsley, etc if any is on hand.

Love crab dip!!!!!

1 can crab meat (preferably Alaskan King crab, shredded)
1 or 1 1/2 pkg. cream cheese, softened
1 tsp. lemon juice
2 T. liquid off crabmeat
Dash Worcestershire Sauce

Blend cream cheese, lemon juice, and crab liquid. Add crabment and W. Sauce. Enjoy!

Alternatives:
can add about 3 T. sour cream, and/or 2T. horseradish, 1 tsp. grated onion.

You can dip veggies in it too.

I love crabmeat too......

Number one of my favorites is crabmeat mousse and I make this and serve it with crackers and it is delicious......it is mostly very nice for a gathering or party...

but for you I can see a little mayo and mix it up and put it in a salad .....or crabmeat in my macaroni salad.....YUMMY..

If you like you can do the warm butter up in microwave and put the crabmeat in it and eat it with a fork like you would do with lobster or steamers..

I live in Maine and I love any type of seafood any day of the week......

this is crabmeat mousse recipe
well actually we make this year round whenever the family gets together.......Delicious..and I post it each year to remind those that this is very elegant and people think you have gone all out.....sooo easy too

2 cans crabmeat drained...does not have to be expensive
one can cream mushroom soup
one 8 ounce pkg cream cheese
1 finely chopped onion
1 cup diced celery
1 cup of mayo
2 1/2 tablespoons (two and a half envelopes) knox geletin unflavored
disolved in 1/2 cup water

combine everything in a pot and heat,.. while still warm, stir in gelatine
mixture.......remove from the heat.

pour in 5 1/2 cup mold and refrigerate.....

when ready to serve......put mold in warm water for a few seconds and
put on a serving tray.....I make mine in a fish mold ......
and add fancy crackers around it........this is delicious and always one
of the first foods to go at a party

Any kind of crab/cheese recipe should work, such as Mornay or Au Gratin. Canned crab tends to have a somewhat stringy texture, so you need something smooth-textured to give it body.

I've used frozen backfin blue to make broiler sandwiches many times, canned would probably work, too. That calls for crabmeat, finely minced onion, paprika and swiss cheese (gruyere is best, IMO). Mix the crab, onion and paprika in whatever ratio you prefer, pile it on an English muffin half, top with the cheese, and broil on low until the cheese browns, about 5 minutes. About 2-3 oz. of crab per piece of bread is the proper amount of filling.
