What to do to offset Disney Depression?

I have 3 disney cd's in my truck, I play when I am alone because no one appreciates it but me.
I listen to the DIS pod casts weekly, and catch up on old ones on the other days
Listen to Sorcerer Radio or one of the other Disney music stations at home or at work between pod casts
I have a few bars left of Mickey soap, I am running out so that is going to suck..
I watch Disney movies when I can get away with it, again most of the time when I am alone...my family really does not get me at all.
and last but not least...I come to the DIS Boards and scroll through the forums for good ideas for my next trip...
(which helps pass the time until I can actually book for next year...)

In addition to Disney Depression, I also get Disney Anxiety (not being able to contain myself leading up to a trip). I visit my local Disney Store, watch Disney Movies, watch videos of Disney World online, or come here to the boards. When all else fails (last year I had to cancel my Disney trip), I found the thing that helped me the most, was to try and forget about it altogether. I got involved in something new (in my case a new costume for me to cosplay) to take my mind off of it. I forced myself to not think about Disney. Sounds crazy, but it was the only way I got relief from being heartbroken. Your idea is really lovely, and I think the boards will help a lot! :)

My wife and I are in our 60's and I know exactly what you are talking about. My Disney Depression begins when I get on the "BAD" Magical Express to take me home. When we get home we make a scrap book of memories for that trip and when ever we get into a funk waiting for the next trip (always in February) we bring out the scrapbooks. I enjoy comparing the park Maps to see the changes over the years. My first map dates back to 1987 and boy have there been a lot of changes. We also like to go onto this web site and read about others experiences and fun. Almost makes it feel like you are experiencing their fun as well. We are currently in wait mode as I start to make my dining reservations in 46 days. We did have two times where because of serious health problems we had to cancel a trip. Both times we encouraged eachother with plans for our next trip.

I feel your pain when it comes to Disney Depression. Doesn't look like I will be able to visit for a while. Typically when I'm feeling down I plan out a perfect Disney vacation. I go to the website choose my hotel, pick where I want to go and what I want to do. For me, I find that planning an upcoming vacation is my favorite part of going to Disney. Though it's fun to keep track of prices and see how much your ultimate vacation would cost, money doesn't matter when it's an imaginary trip. It's nice to know I have a trip in mind if I ever win the lottery.

Nothing squashes a Disney depression like receiving a pin code in your email and booking your next trip!!!

True story! Happened to me today! :dancer:

I totally get how you feel. I went to Disney twice last year and got completely spoiled. My husband and I agreed that we wont be able to go for a while since we're trying to have kids AND save up to eventually buy DVC. That'll add up to (if things go the way we want) around 5 years until our next trip!!! Logically, I know it's the best plan, but the thought of not riding the Haunted Mansion or eating at Ohana for five years gives me the serious blues.

We came up with Disney Days. I like to cook so every month we pick a restaurant we love, and I try to recreate our favorite meals. We watch Disney movies or watch Disney World videos on youtube. We also spend hours planning what it'll be like as parents and DVC members. It helps to get immersed in Disney for a whole day, even if it pales to the real thing. :teeth:

I'm opposite most responses. I have loved my time on the Dis planning for our trip next week, but I won't be back until we book the next trip (probably a couple of years or more). I would be so depressed reading about others plans and new and exciting WDW news.

We have been to WDW 14 or 15 times (depending on if you ask DH or me) and I have cried each and every time we have packed the car to come home. DH always assures me that we will be back. So we come home and I focus on the now and any other vacation we have in the works and it takes away the sting. I don't keep up with WDW news or rumors until I know we will book again. Then I dive in and immerse mysef completely!

I have taken my Rapidfill resort mug with me to work at least once a week every week since we brought it home in January. My husband has one too and sometimes I take his since it's a different color. I know that seems silly, but me getting up and putting coffee in it in the morning is vaguely reminiscent of getting up and going down to the food court. I think it mostly just helps to have something concrete in my hands that was "born" in Disney World and only knew Disney World. :P My little piece of Disney to start the day. :]

There are many Disney park music stations at Live365.com. I stream them regularly and wind up listening to Spectromagic and Wishes almost every night. Also many things available on YouTube.

I really feel for you and understand.

When I get back from a WDW holiday it really rips up my heart. We only get to go ever 2 years because living in the UK its a long way to go.

I think just talking about Disney with like minded people on this forum would help, which is what you're doing already.

I'm sure there's another Disney trip in your future so try to focus on that.

I don't think I've ever had Disney Depression. I moved around a lot as a kid (I averaged a new school every year) so I learned to cope with separation anxiety very quickly. When I get home I enjoy my memories of the trip, revisiting the highlights with fondness. I also make some notes: what to do, what not to do, what to plan on doing next time that I didn't do this time, etc. I go over my packing list as well, editing out anything I didn't need (to include any excess clothing), and adding anything I would have liked to have (though, over the years I've made fewer changes each time).

On the reverse side, in preparation for a trip to WDW or a Disney cruise, I probably spend more time reading and researching than I will on the trip itself. To me this is fun, though DW thinks it a waste of time - she is just a show-up and go with the flow type of traveler. I listen to Disney music, watch movies, and browse websites to see if there is any additional Disney items I just have to have before my next trip.

I haven't been to Disney in two years due to a divorce and new financial responsibilities... :( I was very spoiled before and went at least once a year. I miss it so much that sometimes my heart literally aches... Sounds crazy, I know. Not really much you can do to get over it but I watch Disney movies or YouTube videos... I also try to bring a little Disney into my everyday life! Good luck.. Hope you get to go "home" soon!
