Our Alaska cruise ends in Vancouver but, our flight does not leave Vancouver until about 7:00 PM. What could we do until then? How do you get to the airport from the port?

I assume you end in Canada Place. You can get straight to the airport on the Skytram from Waterfront station, it's $9 and takes you straight to the terminal.

If you have a few hours but don't want to go too far then I highly recommend Stanley Park, it's beautiful. There is an aquarium there if you want to visit that, but just walking the sea wall is wonderful. There is a group of totem poles on your walk round and the scenery is stunning. If you make it around the wall you can stop in English Bay for a drink/meal before heading back

I think that there are post cruise excursions where they drop you off at the airport after with your luggage. I saw city tours and trips to Capilano Suspension Bridge. Those may work well in your situation. Happy planning :)

Our flight home is at 10:30PM, so we're doing a post-cruise tour through Landsea Tours (vancouvertours.com). We're doing the 7 hr Sea to Sky tour (10-5?), but that would be too long if your flight is at 7PM. They do have a 4hr (10-2?) City Highlights one that should work for you. It includes luggage handling, they'll pick you up at the cruise ship terminal and can drop you off at the YVR airport afterwards. As they have multiple pick up stops, the cruise ship pick up is at 9:30AM, so I'd expect any of their 10AM ones to have a 9:30 pickup.

Priority Baggage has a service at Canada Place where you can store your luggage until you're ready to head back to the airport to catch your flight. I thought I read that they will even forward your luggge to the airport, but you might have to check into that. Anyway, after you check your bags, Canada Place is a great jumping off place to Stanley Park, Grouse Mountain or Capilano Suspension Bridge (bus service available for the later 2).

There's a hop on hop off bus tour. It takes you around the city and you can get off, walk around through Granville island, the parks etc. it's not too expensive and really lets you see the city

We used the baggage service at Canada Place and they took our bags to the airport (it was super easy and so convenient). We then walked along the sea wall, had a lovely lunch on a grassy area, and took taxis to the airport.

I'd recommend Grouse Mountain. I recently did Grouse Mountain, Capilano Suspension Bridge, Stanley Park, etc when I was in Vancouver. My favourite was Grouse Mountain - I couldn't believe how active the bears were. The views were good (especially on top of the giant windmill) and the lumberjack show was surprisingly entertaining.

Here's a possible itinerary....
  • 8am enjoy your last breakfast with your new friends
  • 9:30am leave the Wonder when most of the rush is over
  • 10am get in line at the cruise terminal drop off your luggage for later pickup
  • 10:15am get on a shuttle to Capilano Suspension Bridge
  • 11am arrive at Capilano to enjoy the bridge
  • 12:30pm catch one of the return shuttles back to the cruise terminal
  • 1pm walk over to the North End of Canada Place to see Fly Over Canada
  • 2pm walk over to Gastown
  • 3pm return to cruise terminal to retrieve luggage
  • 3:15pm catch a cab to the airport
  • 4pm arrive at the airport for the three hours of check-in, customs, and security checks (hand, body, carry-on, luggage, weapons, ULU's, and WMD's).
  • 7pm wheels up with dreams on your return to Vancouver because you didn't budget enough time for Grouse, Granville Island, or Stanley Park.
If you plan to send your luggage to the airport.... ask CDS when it will be done.... some say it happens after they close at 4pm. Not enough time for that 7pm flight.
