Hi Ted, Thanks again for the great info! Our cruise is fast approaching, July 8. One more question! We want to walk to the Citadel first thing and then go to Fairview cem. Can we walk to Fairview from the fort?

Depends on how much you like to walk - it's about 4 km on a fairly straightforward reasonably flat route.

(BTW- if you are asking for directions when you get to Halifax, Fairview Cemetery is different from the Fairview neighbourhood, which is about a kilometer west of the cemetery)

It will take you about an hour to walk this .. maybe 45 minutes if you walk at a good speed. I would recommend east on Quinpool (retail and misc food service) and then north on Connaught (residential) . A cab would cost you $10-12 each way.

We will be in Halifax in 3 weeks and the plan is to walk to the Citadel. I thought I read somewhere that one of the streets is not as steep, but now I cannot find it.

Is there a route that would be easier from the port or does it not really matter?

Just got back this week from our Disney cruise to Canada. We took a cab from the pier to the Cemetary to see the Titanic graves then took the same cab to the Citadel ( had a great cab driver who waited for us). Walked back downtown. Had lunch on the waterfront. The Citadel was great could have spent all day there! Have a great military museum there as well. Halifax was super, friendly, helpfull people. They even stop to let you cross the road when they have the right away. Will plan another visit when we can stay longer!
