What to do in Halifax? Disney Cruise related ...

Thanks Ted. I'm not taking a cruise to Halifax but I've saved your post for a camping trip that we are planning on doing next year.

Thanks so much for this info. I will definately keep it handy for our cruise next summer. I wonder what excursions Disney has planned.

Linda

Hi and THANKS:goodvibes!
We are on the June 17 sailing that gets to Halifax on the 19th - do you think that the "summer" activities will have started, will the waterfront be hopping yet? Hope so!

shaycamp21 wrote You should post a link to this thread on the Disney Cruise Line Board. This is very helpful!!

Thanks Ted in Halifax for these great suggestions. And yes Shaycamp there is a cruise thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2757016

Ted if you could post what rumours you hear regarding Disney Scouting out port adventures down there on that thread, many a cruiser would be in your debt. We are all waiting to see what they are going to plan, but I believe the earliest we may find out is about 120 days before the first cruise. That will bring it to around February 10, 2011. But hopefully they will relase port adventures earlier than that. I hope in December.

The Discovery Center is always a must do with our kids in "the city". Theadore Tugboat is also fun for the real little ones.
For those with a sweet tooth there is also Sugar (Suga?) on the waterfront (Bishops Landing) a candy shop that makes their own unique chocolate bars. It is also right beside the Rum Cake Store ... YUM!
Pier 21 area with the new open market is interesting, depending on what day you are in port.
If you have access to a car there is also the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park about 30 to 40 minutes from Halifax.

Thanks for great info. Do you think the Citadel would be a good spot to get a picture of the Magic? I try to get one everywhere I go.

I think you could do just fine from there ,... another option is to go up the elevators at the westin near your ship and take a photo from the 8th story or higher.

Using amberg's link, your ship will dock in the upper right hand corner of that photo, in the body of water between the dock and the small island (George's Island)

Great job Ted! I live in Halifax as well and think all of your ideas are great ones. I must add to the list though, that there are some beautiful beaches within easy driving distance of the city. If anyone is planning that rental car trip to Peggy's Cove and wanted to stop there are beaches nearby, Queensland and I believe Bayswater are fairly close on that side. And during the tattoo there are usually concerts at noon in the downtown core by entertainers and bands from near and far. If a schedule of those is released in early June it might be useful for visitors.

I can't wait to see the Mickey Boat here in Halifax!

Almost completely off-topic, but it's about Halifax, and it involves a cat.

A cat escape caused a four-hour delay for an Air Canada flight Thursday as airline staff in Halifax struggled to get the feline from its hiding place in cockpit wiring. (Jan. 27) News video at link.

Today Colorado is quite the winter wonderland. I shoveled a foot of nirvana off my driveway this morning!

Great info on this thread - thanks!

We'll be docking in Halifax on a Sunday. Is there a Catholic Church near the port?
Thank you.
