Hi there.

Not sure this is the best place to post, but since we are staying at a Disney resort, thought I'd try here.

My two dd's (6 & 8), hubby and I will be staying at AS Sports for two nights in early December (although truthfully I am contemplating a switch to POR due to POP Werner).

We will landing early evening and I don't anticipate arriving at the resort until 7:30 - 8:00 ish.

Any suggestions on what we can do with the few hours in our evening? We will have been travelling for most of the day (with a layover) and plan on being at MK the next morning in time for opening.

Many thanks for any replies.

We go to Epcot for dinner our first day.

You could make an ADR at a resort restaraunt !

We usually do an ADR at a nice resort restaurant, maybe a bit of late night swimming, and then relax in the room.

If that was us, we'd be tired from traveling all day so we'd be fine to stay in the room to be rested for the early morning the next day, especially with a 6 and 8 yr old. You could walk the resort a little and get some things in the store like autograph books or pins. No point in overdoing it your first night.

If you stay at AS sports you could enjoy the cheerleader chants outside your room at night, or you could enjoy peace & quiet at POR.

We either do a character meal at one of the monorail resorts then take a ride on the monorail or hit dtd but 8:00 is pretty late to get started so maybe just have dinner at the resort and a swim so you won't be so tired the next a.m.

With children that age, we'd just hang out at the resort and get a good night's sleep. Assuming you'll have already eaten dinner by that hour, grab a snack in the food court - if you want refillable mugs this is a good time to get them. Kids can have hot chocolate! Depending on energy levels, maybe a short swim. Then bed so everyone is well-rested to hit the parks the next morning!

Enjoy your vacation!

I would take a boat down to DTD, walk around for a few minutes and head back to the resort.

I'd just relax at the resort with kids yours age.

I'd take the kids to the arcade, unpack and get to bed at a decent hour. If it's warm enough for a dip in the pool, that would be great too.

Thanks all for the input.

Think we'll take it easy. Although we will have travelled for the better part of the day - knowing my kids, they'll be too excited to sleep so I don't think they'll be in bed at their regular time. I'm sure we'll find plenty to do just hanging around!

Appreciated!

Honestly, sounds like a good plan to me. By the time you actually get to your room, get somewhat unpacked, grab mugs and a snack, etc.etc.etc., it WILL be pretty late.

The pool! Let them work off some of that excitement at the pool. No matter where we go on vacation or when, my DD's first request is alway "when can we go swimming?"

If we need to burn some energy, the most I plan on for the evening of arrival is a walk around the resort, and maybe exploration of the resort gift shop. We almost always end up on flights that get us there late in the day, and though I have tried to make arrival night ADRs in the past, we either cancel or don't enjoy them because DD is tired or has been cooped up in car/bus/plane and can't sit still. I think it's great to go for a walk, unpack, and go to bed early so we can start our first day out well-rested.

Getting in that late after a day of traveling? I'd grab dinner in the food court (if I had not eaten yet) and then I would take a stroll around the resort. I wouldn't try to do a lot that first night if I planned to be at the MK for rope drop the next morning.

For us...first I would switch to POR if it doesn't cause a financial burden....just like it more....then I would take a boat to DTD for supper or just to browse....or stay at the resort, hang at pool, etc..... :)

If we get in that late, and it's usually after a Transatlantic flight, we usually unwind in DTD, recommend Cap't Jack's

If you are arriving on Wed.-Sat. you could all go to the lounge at POR to see Yehaa Bob's show. Starts at 8:30 and is free. Another reason to switch to POR.

Kids can get hot chocolate in the refillable mugs?!?!? If that's the case, we might use them a lot more than I expected. My kids don't drink soda or coffee, so I didn't think they'd be using theirs much.
