What to do in Dallas

Aimeedyan, thank you so much! Great suggestions that I will definitely have to check out.

How far is superpages.com center from downtown dallas? Someone said Lovefield and the venue are close to eachother. Would we be better off staying near there or staying downtown (or somewhere else)?

Superpages.com is near Fair Park. Fair Park is really close to Downtown, you don't even need to get on the freeway if you're driving between them. Love Field and SuperPages are only about 10 miles apart, and you have to get through Downtown to get between them typically.

Your other option is to look at hotels at in the University Park/Highland Park area near North Park Center - it would put you in a more upscale neighborhood and the DART rail goes through there. Like near here: http://www.mockingbirdstation.com/

I've lived here for 15 years and I had to look up the Superpages.com center because I've never heard of it. DFW people, is that the old Coca-Cola Starplex at Fair Park:confused3? I wondered why I never hear of the Starplex anymore. But the only concerts I go to, if I go, are at Bass Hall in Fort Worth. Although I did see Elton John at the American Airlines center a few years ago.

Inquiring minds want to know. . . who are you coming to see?

Like others have said, don't stay anywhere near the Fair Park part of town :scared1:. And don't plan to walk anywhere down there. Figure out your transportation situation before you get down there. It's known for being a run down, high-crime part of town, which is unfortunate since there are several cultural venues there, as well as the State Fair in the fall.

I'm sure we all don't want to spoil your fun idea, but if the band you want to see will be anywhere nearer to your own city than Dallas is, just see them there. You might be able to do it, but this really just isn't a good place to come to and not have a car or local friends to drive you around. It's unfortunate, but true.

So it's sounding like everything itsn't too far from everything else. So taxi fares shouldn't be too crazy expensive. We're starting to have second thoughts on going to Dallas because we don't really want to spend all our $$$$ on taxi fares. But if everything is only a few miles it won't be too bad....

We're going to see the Jonas Brothers. Like I said before, kinda lame but it has become kind of a tradition after seeing them in NYC and in PA where I live the past 2 years. Unfortunately the timing stinks for us when they come here (my friend is going away to school and moving into her apartment that week plus she has other stuff planned). I work so that kind of limits the days we can go to a show. We were also considering the one in Wantagh, NY, but that show is like an hour away from NYC. We are going to see if there is any kind of subway or something to the venue there so we could stay in the city where we could walk a lot of places or use the subway and only use a taxi to and from the airport and possibly from the venue.

My other issue with Dallas is that my friend has a fear of flying. We flew to NYC two years ago and on the 45 minute flight, I wanted to open the door and push her out. She was convinced the engines shut off and when I told her that if they did, we would be plummeting to the ground, she started panicking that we were nosediving. I don't know that I could stand a long flight with her without wanting to push her out of the plane. haha

Well, where ever you get to see them, be safe and enjoy! And I certainly won't call them lame! Sounds like you and your friend have a fun tradition :).

Have your friend talk with her doctor about getting a prescription for Xanax. I flew to NY with my daughter's high school band two years ago and Xanax worked wonders!

And I agree with the other posters. You do not want to hang around the Fair Park area after dark.
