What to do if you can't make your ADR?

We are planning our first Disney trip in May. I have 3 small children (6, 4, 20 mos) and my biggest worry is to be overbooked or too ambitious in our planning. But after reading the boards, found that the ADRs are really necessary. And my parents are going along with us and really will want a few real meals. We are getting the meal plan with our tickets.

I'm not so concerned about not wanting a certain "kind" of food, but more about the times I chose - what happens if we don't make it, or decide to not even try to make it? Is there a cancellation fee? Should we actually call and cancel?

These are the ones we have booked:
Chef Mickey CR
Cinderella Royal Table (already paid for)
Crystal Palace MK
Kona Cafe Poly
O'Hana breakfast Poly
O'Hana dinner (we're staying at Poly)
Restaurantasaurus AK
Tony's at MK

I guess there is no full service restaurant at AK on the dining plan? All I saw was Rainforest Cafe.

They will hold your reservation for 15 minutes (past) your ADR time and then it will automatically cancel if you do not show. I believe the only one that you have booked that will charge a no show/cancelation fee is Cinderella's. Other than that they will just cancel with no penalty. If you know for sure you are not going to go, I would call and cancel (or stop by the hotel lobby concierge and have them cancel it for you) just so that others may have a chance to book that time slot or get it as a walk in. But, no worries if the decision is made too late to cancel, they understand, sometimes the times planned just don't work out when you get your day going. No shows are common, but again if you know enough in advance go ahead and cancel them so someone else can get in.
