What to do if our bags are delayed?

I was a minimalist traveller, living out of carry-on, until the pesky kid and the DH with the medical equipment came along... LOL

Sure you can.

YOU can. Not everyone.
Apparently you don’t sweat and are of a size where your clothes are small. That’s not everyone.

And you’ve been doing it that way your whole life. It’s all you know.

There’s a big beautiful world of checked luggage out there that others know about.

I'm the same. I put my laptop, usually my DSLR, MAYBE a change of clothes, and my 3-1-1 bag in my normal backpack. My second carry on (now) is my CPAP. I still say there's an advantage of not worrying about a carryon when you're going through the airport (bathroom stops, food stops, shopping to kill time, etc).

CPAP is medical. All US airlines I know of allow a medical bag along with the normal carryon/personal item allowances.

You can mail toiletries ahead....
Take your oldest nightgowns and undies and ditch them

So now it’s an extra expense to mail things and replace things.

Washing a top and hanging it on a hanger takes less than five minutes. That's not going to ruin a vacation.

I just spent almost a month in two other countries. I had to wash often. It took a good two days for any piece of clothing to dry. I washed every day. It took longer than 5 minutes, especially since I wasn’t going to let the items actually drip, so I had to wring them out enough so I wouldn’t damage the flooring or carpet. I had to find places in the room to hang the laundry.

And that’s *with* a checked bag.

Wearing a pair of jeans a couple days is far from gross.

It absolutely is gross.

I want to feel and be physically pleasant while traveling. Wearing some clothes that I’ve been in without washing them won’t feel nice and the clothing likely won’t be pleasant for others to be around.

Waiting for luggage is time consuming

Didn’t you say you’ve never checked a bag? HOW would you know??

If my bags aren’t out by the time I’m there (rare) I’m usually moving things around, putting outerwear on or taking it off, etc. it’s useful time and things I would be doing anyway.

And you don't have to personally do laundry, hotels will do that for you for a price.

Some hotels. But now we’re spending extra money again. And we’re allowing our clothes (that we’re afraid of losing during travel) to be taken to some laundry room and washed on in hot and dried. Nope.

And it’s by no means all hotels.

And again, not realistic.

She was joking with Angi, not making a blanket statement.

So? Then I have to schlep THREE bags through the airport? Unless my suitcase is big enough for my CPAP. No thank you.

What airport and airline did you fly from? Most airports will not accept bags less than 45 minutes before flight time.

Why does it matter? The OP said the airline took the bags and later said the bags made it to the destination. I would think airlines would have more of a requirement than airports. American lists 45 minutes. Delta lists 30 minutes, Southwest is 45. Jetblue is 40.

You'd think that but my local airport is different. They won't take them less than 60 min. We cut it very close one trip when we didn't know. We do have small aircraft the needs to be careful with weight

It's a combination of airline and airport. For example, at a number of airports, Delta has a 45 minute limit (and at JFK is is an hour).

I was just surprised they accepted them that close. I have a friend who had to reschedule her flight at LAX because it was under 45 minutes.
