Staying @ WL Villas for 4 nights in Mid-May. What are some suggestions for fun in WDW if it rains?....for more than the expected 5 minutes of downpour, that is!

Most attractions are indoors and rain will hold crowds down so many times you will encounter small ques.So put on that rain coat and lace up them shoes and head for the parks. That what we do anyway.::yes:: :wave2:

We also stick it out. The crowds lighten up and you can get through faster! Disney can be enjoyed rain or shine!

We throw on a poncho and keep going!

Rain is inevitable in Florida, we accept that and go on. The rides usually get alot shorter, too, and we get more done!

Another vote for those rain ponchos!

Some days I actually hope for rain. It really thins the crowds out and as one previous poster stated, most of the attractions are inside. So put on the poncho to walk around and enjoy those shorter lines.

Any suggestions on inexpensive rain ponchos? Should I purchase them locally or can they be purchased @ WDW?

Just keep on enjoying that Disney magic!

Don't wait to buy your ponchos - it is like a sea of yellow (anyways last time I noticed the ponchos they were yellow)! They are a lot cheaper at the discount stores too.

Don't buy them at WDW, you pay through the nose for them.::MickeyMo

WalMart is great. We have a chain of stores in Illinois called Dollar General. We pay 50-cents for poncho's. We wear them throughout the week and throw them away for the trip home. Head to the theme parks like everyone else says. Shorter lines.

:umbrella:The average monthly rainfall in May at WDW is 3.6 inches. Far less than in the summer months. :umbrella:

Go to the Dollar Tree for ponchos, you can usually get a pack of 2 for $1. I am another rain goer.... I love it when it rains. It does thin the crowds out, and it's just a little water... you won't melt! lol

was there last week and had to purchase the ponchos at mgm - they charged $5.00 per poncho - i think they seem a little thicker than the dollar store ones and they have a big mickey mouse on the back.

last year when we bought them they were bright yellow but this year they are clear.

when you look around you realize how much money they make on ponchos - they were everywhere!!!

i agree with the other - put on the poncho and keep on going!!

I have to vote for the stick it out and go to the parks...the crowds are lighter.

I've lived in Florida many years and while it can possibly happen, all day rains this time of year (except during hurricanes) are not anywhere near as common as the standard Florida flood and flicker (what I call them). We sometimes chuckle a bit at the people who would automatically assume that when these storms come up, that they are day breakers. Not hard to see why someone would think that. They are usually accompanied with dark sinister clouds, lots of lighting and lots of rain that appears to be the whole horizon with no end in sight. However, these are misleading and usually they only last between 20 and 40 minutes. They are also almost always in the afternoon between 1-4pm with a light sprinkle sometimes at night. In fact, I often wonder why we need a weatherman here in the summer, when the forecast is usually, "It's going to be partly cloudy with afternoon to evening thundershowers. Highs in the low to mid 90's and lows in the mid 60's." The thunderstorms are a daily event, more they will than they won't.

As I suggest to most tourists, just find yourself an attraction, preferably a long one, or a restaurant where you can feed or entertain yourself and your family for that time, and you'll be fine and hopefully the rain will have cooled everything down.

One point though, some outdoor shows (most notably the Castle Forecourt show, are subject to certain rain restrictions. The Castle one does not have further shows after a 20 minute rain session, due to the stage surface being too slippery to dance on and are generally cancelled for the remainder of the day. So you might want to see it early if that is your plan. Other shows are usually either rescheduled, may skip a single performance, or may do a minimized performance (less dancing or action) during rain.

Water parks may or may not close for the remainder of the day depending on the storm and intensity and time of day. Sometimes they will give refunds or tickets for another day (if you paid for a day pass) depending on what time and how long you been there.

What to do? Throw on a poncho and get wet feet! have a great time and ignore the rain. Unless you are super sweet you will not melt!

We did take shelter on the People Mover(or what ever they call it now) in the MK during a thunder and lightening storm.
Many of the outdoor rides do close for safety reasons during lightening!

We went to Disney Quest and had a wonderful time. When it first opened it was not very crowded, but did get crowded by mid-afternoon. We stayed a few hours, then went to a movie and had dinner at HOB then went back in the evening. Have already purchased my Disney Quest tickets for this year.

Take some waterproof shoes or sandals, a rain poncho, and an umbrella in a backpack and go! It really isn't that bad unless it is a close thunderstorm. Have fun!

You have got to be kidding, it rains in Florida?
