We are going down in July for a beach vacation. We will have a car and I was looking for some cool things to do with the family. I have 2 girls 9 and 7 and we will relax on the beach, but would like some other things to do. We are going to do the turtle watch. Thinking about NASA tour, maybe an airbout tour. Any other recommendations?

intested in answers too as we are thinking of going in Sep
wonder what the weather will be like

I lived in Vero for a while. There is a terrific place to rent a luxury car (street or name I forget) to take them for a spin. It was a BLAST!!!! You can rent a Bentley, or a sports car and have the time of your life roaring around town. There's also a flight school nearby (Flight Safety) where you can finagle a flight over the town.

We spent a week in Vero in August. We drove to Fort Pierce and toured the US Navy Seal museum. We also took an airboat ride.

We did a charter fishing trip on the Indian River. Had to get up early, but it was worth it! We used Captain Charlie http://captain-charlie.com/ He was wonderful!
You don't have to be an expert fisherman to enjoy. DH loves fishing and I enjoy it. But I also enjoy just relaxing and enjoying the scenery. We saw a lot of manatees, some turtles and sea rays on our fishing trip and well as caught 9 or 10 different species of fish.

Sebastian Inlet State Park is very nice.

I love Vero Beach and have been there many times. In fact, I'm going back in June. But, this is not a resort with a lot of attractions or activities around it. It's the kind of place where you really need to make an effort to find much of anything else to do outside of the resort. Will you be there for a whole week? If not, I bet you will find plenty to do at the resort. You can rent bikes from the resort and do a bike ride. There is a mall not too far from the Disney resort. There is also a downtown area of sorts in Vero Beach, but I have neve been there. I get the impression the downtown area (if that is even what it is called) is small, but that is where the other timeshare resorts are near.

Vero beach is a very fun resort with lots to do. Lots of activities and movie nights and stuff like that. One thing to be prepared for is a very warm pool. Honestly, the pool gets so hot in July, it is far from refreshing. They need another pool complex at Vero. The waterslide is a blast -- very fast.

We like Vero Beach and Myrtle Beach but they couldn't be more different. Myrtle Beach has so much going on you can't trip without finding something to do. Vero Beach is the complete opposite and you can go miles and miles before finding anything more than a house or a small store.

Now, if you drive further down I-95 to the West Palm Beach area, you will find lots do do. You can probably drive north and find even more to do.

If I am remembering right, there is a small (kind of plain) off-site minature golf place not very far from the resort. I had two teen cousins with me on one of my trips and I was really stretching to find things to do at night with them and we discovered an off-site minature golf place. Other than a mall, there wasn't much else to do.

Body surfing. No question about it. The sand is full of shells too - to the point where it hurts until your feet get used to it. Much fun but its not a good beach for little kids. A bit too violent of a beach for little kids and swimming.

We stayed 6 nights last June. My kids ages 7 and 10 at the time participated in a lot of the daily classes. Painting, shark tooth necklace making, lizard catching. They also played the Peter Pan mini golf several times, ping pong and swam a lot in the pool and ocean. We went off site to Sebastian Park for a turtle walk which was awesome! One day we went shopping at the outlet mall. It was a fun trip but laid back.

My daughter did a fishing class led by the resorts naturalist and she loved it. They went fishing at the resorts pond and she caught a few. They get to keep their fishing rod.

The naturalist also leads early morning turtle walks that are nice, lots of information about the nests.

We have enjoyed the games and activities at the resort. When we went in the summer, the pool parties were always packed. Play Goofy Bingo! Mini Golf is fun too, and free on member day.

We also drove down to Bathtub Reef, which was recommended here. Loved it so much, we went twice. Also went to the Navy Seals Museum and NASA.

The "downtown" VB area has great shops and restaurants. The day that the guys went fishing with a guide, us girls did lunch and window shopped. Many if the shops are pricey. We've eaten at several of the restaurants for dinner and they range from expensive on the ocean, to bars, to hip and funky.
