What to do for a reservation for 7?

Hi All and thanks in advance for your help!

MY ADR's are almost here, so I've been 'practicing' booking for some of our more popular choices. There will be 7 of us having dinner together and I seem to have a hard time finding table times for 7. I can book 6 easily for the time we're looking for. Should I book a table for 6 and an extra table for 1 or should I book the 6 and show up with 7 (4 adults, a 5 yo and a 2 yo who would sit in a highchair). I want to get this all figured out now so I don't have to panic at 6am!
For your info, the restaurants I've been practicing are 8pm at Cali Grill, BOG dinner, O'Hana, Via Napoli.

Look for a reservation for 8 because most tables seat an even number of guests. The reservation system has a quirk making it harder to find reservations for an odd number because it wants to fill every seat at the table. Often an odd numbered party will be bypassed even if a table is available, but if you add one more, it will find a reservation. When you arrive at the restaurant, just let the host/ess know that there are just 7 of you. As long as at least one person shows up for the reservation you will not be charged for the "missing" guest.

You could also split your party and make 2 reservations to cover your entire group at the same times, but they would be seen as separate reservations so there is no guarantee that you would be seated together.

You need to make your reservation for your entire group - everyone, no matter how young, eating or not, needs to be counted because of fire code regulations. If you book for 6, there is a possibility that one person in your group will not be seated and will have to go elsewhere to eat because you would need a larger table size. While it is a slim possibility, we have seen someone turned away at a busy time and when the restaurant was running far behind schedule.

When it is time to book your ADR's, if you do not see one for 7, book 8. If you book for 6 and try t book a seat for one, you may be seated apart from each other. This is my last resort whenever I book ADR's.

I would book for 8 before I booked for 6 and and a 1. My friend was a party of 7 and had no issues making her adrs just for 7, but I know anything can happen.
