Hi everyone,

We'll be staying at CBR in January and have an ADR at Boma @ 6PM our first night. We plan on driving our vehicle from CBR to AKL.

Any suggestions on what to do at AKL after dinner? My wife and I will be with twin DDs (5 years old).

By the way, is it true you cannot "pool hop"? I was thinking we could swim if the weather cooperated until I read that somewhere.

Thanks

No pool hop, but you may be able to watch the animals from a viewing area.

CBR has a great main pool, btw and a hot tub, plus a pool bar, so you have a very nice swimming after dinner option if it's early enough and warm enough @ your own resort. And, if you're so inclined you can have a cocktail w/out worrying about navigating your car back to your resort. Plus each island in CBR has it's own quiet pool.
In regards to AKL and dinner @ Boma, I would arrive early and go out to the Arusha overlook to take a look at Arusha savanna while you still have light to see the animals. I really like Boma, in fact I eat dinner there every trip, but it does not look out on a savanna so to see the animals you must wander. There are large windows along the hallways (called trails) leading to the rooms, too.
The lobby of AKL is beautiful and worth exploring - up on the 3rd floor (I think it's the 3rd floor, not positive, could be higher) there is a sky bridge across the lobby which has a nice view down and worth the jaunt up to walk across it and peer down. I really like the gift shop as well.
After dinner you can wander out by the pool area and if it's late enough there should be a cm w/ night vision goggles for guests to use. They also have a fire every night out on the way to the Arusha overlook and it's nice to sit around the fire, there's also an inside fire by the bar in the lobby.

You can go to the savannah look out and ask a cast member for night vision goggles. It's a blast to see the animals at night. Also, take some time to check out the resort, grand lobby and store. You won't need a pool to keep you busy at AKL.

+1. As well there is often a storyteller, as there was on Nov 12 when we last ate at Boma. Enjoy!:)

If your dinner is at 6PM in January, you probably won't be finished until 7PM or later. And it will be very dark at that time. You won't see anything on the savanna unless you use the night vision goggles.

Like others have mentioned - you cannot swim in the pool.
You can do the night vision :cool2:animal viewing (it is to the left of the pool) just ask a CM.
They also have a movie by the pool every night.
The lobby and gift shop are absolutely beautiful and worth some time exploring.
There is a beautiful fire pit outside with rocking chairs.
Be sure to check out the animal viewing areas by the fire pit. Granted you will not be able to see any of the animals roaming about in the dark...but one night I went for a late night stroll and I was SHOCKED to see a whole lot of zebras taking a drink right near the edge of that viewing area!

Thanks for the great tips everyone. Looking forward to it and will definately try to get there before dinner to check out the animals.

If the animals are close by viewing area you will be able to see them, they have a sort of artificial lighting on savannas like moon light.

Ask a CM what is going on, there may be storytelling by the campfire, marshmallow roast, there are CMs on Arusha rock lookout, and Uzima. I really enjoy the Cultural Safari, held in Sunset Room just past lobby concierge desk. A CM talks about his/her country, and has slide show. Very worthwhile.

Wandering around lobby is interesting. They have many display cases of African Art. And the gift shop is also fun. Many unusual things you don't see at other resorts.

Definitely spend some time looking around Jambo House and the savannah overlook, then drive over to Kidani and check out their fire pit/animal viewing area. I like it much better than Jambo because you can get much closer to the savannah.

During our last trip, we stopped at Kidani after having dinner at Boma and were able to sit with a CM in the Community Hall who showed us a video and told us about her job back in Africa. It was a really wonderful moment that we just happened upon as we were walking through the Community Hall.
