What tires are on your unit?????

To celebrate our 5 year anniversary our travel trailer decided to blow out a tire on the way to knoebels. Then decided to let air out of the spare on the way home. Apparently it was telling us it wants new ones, but which ones will do for our trip south next month??? We currently have st205/75r15 LR C towmax, but are considering going to a D rating and no idea which brand.
Please respond with brand tire you have and any experience. Thank you.

Trailer tires should be changed at least every 5 years regardless of wear or tread remaining. That is 5 years from the date of manufacture, not age of trailer (my trailer is a 2009 but the tires were made in 2008).

That being said, I have Powerking which is a Chinese make, as are most trailer tires now.

Jim is 100% right replace your tires about every 3-4 years just to be safe if you use it or not.

Me and my Dad both have trailers and we use Goodyear marathons we have had good luck with them. Make sure what ever brand you buy that they are trailer tires and radials.

Carlisle trailer tires are famous with my cycle club. Famous for exploding and tearing off fenders on enclosed trailers.

Any tire can fail. Not really sure any one brand is worse than another. The main thing is not to overload, keep the tire pressure up, keep an eye on them during the trip and swap em out every few years. I saw a lot of 5ers sidelined last year with blow outs. I suspected they were overloaded and underinflated.

I just put Carlisle tires on my trailer, because they got good reviews from other's on the rv sites.

Just don't use Duro tires they are junk I had to replace mine on our Disney trip because the were cracked open with bubbles on the side and they were on a 2009 trailer with between 2-3000 miles on them. I am lucky they didn't blow out on the way down. I found all they bubbles on the sides just before we got down there.

before you let anyone put tires on your trailer, make sure you look and see when they were made...the last thing you want is to buy "new" tires that were made last year

i haven't been there and done that when we had the TT, but i have caught someone trying that on my car...i made them take them off and put a new set on

Check the weight capacity, traction and tread life figures for your given trailer tire and the car/truck tire of the same size {if available}

You'll be buying the car/truck tire, no sense in buying less capabilities for about the same money.

There is a lot of controversy about this and you may have opened a can of worms. Trailer tires are made differently, with more flexible side walls. Personally, I would never run car/truck tires on my trailer.

Another vote for Maxxis. Have them on my Toy Hauler and so far so good.

Tires produced starting in 2000 have a four-digit birth date code at the end of the DOT number. The first two numbers indicate the week, and the last two the year. So, for example, a DOT number ending in 0205 means the tire was produced the second week of January 2005.

I've heard the recommendation to replace tires around the 5 year mark regardless of wear/appearance.

All I can say is I can count the number of trailer tire blow-outs on one hand and still have 5 fingers to spare.

I wish I could say I never had a flat on my 5th wheel. On the way to Chi. We lost a tire south of Atlanta then another on 24 in Ky. had to spend the night in a corn field behind a 7-11 the blow out destroyed the alum. apron on the trailer from the wheel to the bumper. $3000.00. in damage and $800.00 in 4 new D rated tires. I was so excited to show off our new trailer which looked like a wreck once we got there.

Purchased 5 in April from Discout Tire Online. Ups delievered to my house. They have a list of place that suggest to have them mounted. All 5 mounted and balanced was $100. The date stamp on the tires was less than 6 months.
