We have an excursion booked with Capt Marvins, and I'm assuming the time listed is GC time, even though the ship's time may not change? Does anyone know?

Hi!
Just returned and we changed our clocks once forward, and once back (or vice versa) on the western inaugral. We also went w/ Capt. Marvins (their time was corresponding w/ ships time change) and had a WONDERFUL time! Did the 10-1 Stingray City trip (the BEST excursion you could pick IMO) and the 2:15 shipwrecks and reefs one (pretty good but would do the first one twice if possible!)
Have a great time!!!

Key West is on Eastern Time, and they adjust for Daylight Savings Time. So it's the same time as Port Canaveral and Castaway Cay.

Grand Cayman is on Eastern Standard Time. They do not adjust for Daylight Savings Time. So they're kinda' like most of Indiana... same time as Port Canaveral, Key West, and Castaway Cay from late October to early April... same time as Cozumel from early April to late October.

Cozumel is on Central Time, and they do adjust for Daylight Savings Time. It's the same time as Grand Cayman from early April to late October.

Castaway Cay is on Eastern time, and they do adjust for Daylight Savings Time. So it's the same time as Port Canaveral and Key West.

The ship's time will adjust back an hour. Between early April and late October it will adjust back an hour between Key West and Grand Cayman. Between late October and early April, it will adjust back an hour between Grand Cayman and Cozumel.

The ship's time will adjust forward an hour between Cozumel and Castway Cay (year-round).

Ship's time is always local to whatever port you're in.

Cotomom & others...

First of all, thanks for sharing your experiences with the Western Cruise Itinerary. We are on the June 8th Western Cruise.

First, our whole family is going on the Seaworld Sub excursion in Grand Cayman. Following that, I'm signed up to take DS8 on the Shipwreck and Reef tour. The sea life in Cayman is supposed to be the greatest. DS8 is a snorkling newbie, but he likes it a lot. So do I. Is the water fairly shallow/gentle? How much time is spent in the water? Or, would we better off just snorkling somewhere near a beach? Are we fitting too much in in one day?

I still have a week to cancel. Please share your thoughts.

Shipwreck & reef w/ Capt. marvins (NOT through DCL) went to Eden Rock (IMO deep, not too much to see), Callie shipwreck (shallower, neat to see shipwreck but not too much sealife), Cheeseburger Reef (honestly don't remember too much about it but not too many fish), and one other shipwreck in front of 7 mile beach Westin hotel I think? That one had the most sea life and most recent ship so more to see. Further out, deeper water.

All were fairly calm, but it's not water you can stand in by all means.

Eden Rock, Callie are right in the heart of town and you can literally walk to location on land where they have signs Callie, or Eden Rock..., get in the water, swim out to them. Cheeseburger reef was right out from Burger King I believe, but is further into the left of town (if coming off the pier). Probably able to walk to it, and swim out to it. 7 mile beach wreck was about a 15 minute boat ride down and was further out probably not swimmable to in my opinion.

Our trip was about 2 hours I think, with about 15 minutes or so at each of the 4 stops. There were only supposed to be 3 of us on the entire boat, but at the last minute 2 people staying at a hotel signed up. So, it was a total of 5 snorkellers and Chris from Capt. Marvins (who stayed on the boat and threw bread out to feed/attract fish) This trip is not too exhausting, and easy snorkelling (IMO). We did this one back to back w/ the morning 10-1 one. We are experienced snorkellers and can tell you we made it to dinner and the show (even Palos that night I believe) but we did sleep very well that night!

Stingray city and Barrier reef on other side of island were much, much more exciting w/ sea life, but that might not be possible w/ your time frame?

Hope this helps!

Thanks cotomom...

I think we are going to bring our own snorkle gear and maybe go to Smith's cove or Seven mile beach on our own rather than stick with a 2.5 hour shipwreck excursion. Then I don't have to worry about DS8, a snorklling newbie, getting spooked by the deep water--we can just swim/wade out from shore.
