What time to arrive for MM?

I've never done an early entry, or Magic Morning, so I'm curious as to how early we should arrive before the park opens. We're going in the summer so I'm assuming the Park will open at 7am on the early days.
What time would folks recommend getting there before the park opens? Does it take awhile to get thru the bag check area? Do you go through bag check and then line up or vice versa?
I looked at the tips page before posting but couldn't find anything relating to my question.
Can anyone lend a Mom a hand on this one? :confused3

magic morning aka early entry opens an hour early than the park so if the park opens at 7am then mm would be 6am and i'd be at the gate at 530.

In the summer the park opens at 8am so magic mornings will be at 7am. You need to be at the gate/bag check line for 6:30am. I understand that bag check does not open earlier than this.

In general, for going to Fantasyland you should be fine getting to the DL entrance 30 minutes before MM. (Like Danauk mentioned, in the summer MM starts at 7:00, so you should be there at 6:30.) Last year when people wanted to make the mad dash to Finding Nemo, they would sometimes line up 40 to 50 minutes before MM. (If for some reason you go very early, be sure to wait at the security tables (see below).)

When does security open on a MM day?
According to one board member, the security lines have opened at 6:25-6:30 on an 8:00 MM day.

Where should I wait in line?
The best bet to secure your front of the line spot, is to just wait by the security tables, even if the esplanade is open. The guests in the esplanade will be forced to backtrack and go through security when Cast Members show up.

If I get to the turnstiles too early, will I lose my well earned place at the front of the line?
Yes. Prior to the official opening of the security lines, all guests must leave the esplanade to get in line at the security tables. Instead of being at the turnstiles, at the front of the line, you will be behind all of the guests who lined up at the security tables.

We were there in March during a record-breaking spring break attendance. One of our MMs we wanted to get on the first Nemo sub. So we got to the security tables at 6:10 a.m. and we were the third group there. 10 minutes later the line was about 50 people behind us. Security opened at 6:30 and we dashed for the turnstiles, and we were first in line at our turnstile. By the time they opened the turnstiles to allow people up to the top of Main Street for rope drop (6:50 a.m.) the lines stretched back almost to the California letters on the Esplanade.

We had to run, but we got on the first sub. I don't recommend this, it was insane. Nemo was cute, but it wasn't worth all the fuss.

Now if I wasn't trying to get on Nemo, I wouldn't be so concerned about being first in line everywhere. If you get to security at 6:30 and wander over to the turnstile line, you are still going to be in great shape to walk right onto Peter Pan and the other fantasyland rides, as recommended in the above link, the MM superthread.

I agree with SS Columbia. :thumbsup2

I was wondering......regarding DLR's excellent MM SuperThread.

Would anyone else think that the sentence:

"the security lines have opened at 6:25-6:30 on an 8:00 MM day"

......should read something like.....
the security lines have opened at 6:25-6:30am on an MM day where Gen. Adm. opens at 8am & MM opens at 7am

...or do i just confuse easily? :upsidedow

i like it the way it's witten it keeps the non disney hard core out while we play

I'm relieved to hear that a half hour ahead of time is adequate! Knowing we have the afternoon to lounge, nap, or swim helps it not seem quite so insane anyway. I think that's one of the plusses of going in the summer with the longer hours. (Hopefully I'll still feel that way after the trip.) :cutie:
