What time of year to visit VERO BEACH?

I know everyone is talking about how the hurricane affected Vero Beach. My family is looking at visiting there in a year or more so hopefully everything there will be back to normal.

We have always pulled our kids out of school and gone to WDW during slow times. After this years trip we have decided to try somewhere else (my spouse suggested VERO BEACH) and go during a school break or summer vacation.

Anyone who has been to vero, please give me your advice and input. THanks!

My background info: Home resort is BW so I have to make ressies at 7 months. ALso want our trip during kids school break.

My questions are:

1. How is June-August for visiting Vero Beach? crowds, availability at 7 months? Weather? Activities?

2. How about second week in February? Is it too cold? What are the available activities?

3. This is probably an impossible time, but what about Easter week? can you even get ressies at 7 months and is it too crowded that its better just to go in the summer?

I've only been to Vero twice but if you want to avoid hurricane season, It runs from June 1st thru Nov. 30. Feb. can be beautiful in FL but can go either way with temps -- can be comfortable and high 70's or quite chilly more like high 40's low 50's -- great time for the parks;) Maybe not for VB if you want to swim in the ocean but I'm sure the pool is heated.

Anyway, hope that helps a little. I'm sure more VB experts who've actually vacationed there the different times will be able to share more info. for you.

Our family likes going to Vero at Thanksgiving time. While we can't be there this year, we would sure love to be.

We are hoping to go during Spring break in March.

I have wanted to go to VB during Turtle season, when the turtles lay their eggs and then when those eggs hatch and the little ones head off into the ocean. I think we're talking May and July there aren't we?

We are New Englanders, so summer is too dang hot in Florida for the likes of us, so up until now we have generally enjoyed going in January. Last year, VB was regularly 10 degrees warmer than Orlando, like 77 compared to 67 range. Hey and anytime you can get out of New England in the depths of winter is a good thing. And even if the temps drop into the 60s, for Mainers like me, swimmin' weather is any time the pond ain't frozen.

I just made ressies for our Spring Break (first full week in April). We are in Atlanta...and always look forward to a spring break beach trip where it's warm enough to swim! I hope the beach has been rebuilt by then.

This will be our first trip to the Vero area...we've only been to the Panhandle (Destin, Ft Walton...our favorites) and the Amelia Island area.

:D Thanks for your input so far. I think we will give Vero Beach a try, but still curious how that specific resort is in February, april and summer. And how hard ressies are........any more input from people who have been there and done that would be great!

Vero Beach in summer is very hot, like the rest of Florida, but to me it's not like being at WDW with all that concrete! The breeze from the ocean is nice and makes things a bit cooler when at the beach. Summer is not the peak season, so 7 months ressies should not be a huge problem. I remember making them at 7 months for summer before I bought points there. I bought points to have the 11 month window for spring break time. I was there this year the 3rd week of March, and when we checked in (late at night), they told me I literally had gotten the *last* room in the resort. It did not seem crowded, however. We have also visited in January and had gorgeous weather. It was around 80 during the day. This was over MLK weekend two years ago. I guess, though, like anywhere in Florida, the weather can go either way. I was in WDW for the same weekend the next year, and it was 38 - 50 degrees while we were there. Hats and glove, etc. You never know, you just take your chances. I love Vero.

FWIW, I just made reservations for our Spring Break in April (first week...along with everyone else in the Metro Atlanta area) and I had no problems getting in at 7 mos.

If your request for VB is based upon weather, then plan on the end of April or the first few weeks of May. Humidity is still low (compared to summer), temps are rising and the rainy season has not yet set in.

Thanks for more info. Looks like Easter might be hard to book. And the weather can go either way for February. So I guess I'll have to look at the kids schedule and see if we want summer or February. I love WDW but we are ready to try something else!

I may need to do a separate post, but does anyone have suggestions for activities?

Thanks again!

we were just there in july and it was really a very nice vacation. it was hot but we just moved from the pool to the beach to the pool to the beach.... the ocean was very nice and warm the pool got a little too warm in the afternoon... we buy the length of stay mini golf passes for $5 and play a lot of mini golf... dd went on the turtle troup thing and they dug up a leatherback nest and actually rescued a baby turtle who hadn't made it out with the group. (that was pretty cool). dh and dd went on some of the things offered by disney and had a great time... I pretty much sat by the pool or on the beach. we don't "do" much else. (well, ok I run to target but that's because I have an addiction to target and need a 12 step program :D )... maggie

Katie, we're also going down for spring break - but to OKW. I thought we should get in one more trip off those APs! Maybe we'll pass each other on the way down on 75!

Thanks for the extra info and link to the treasures of vero thread. I used to read these boards daily and haven't been very active here lately. I knew I could get help and info here! Can't wait till things get back to normal at vero and we can visit! Thanks again everyone!:sunny:

Maybe we will! If you see a dark blue, anniversary edition Grand Caravan with a Mickey "USA flag" antenna topper...wave!

I'm excited to check out Vero. We plan to switch from SSR to OKW for our May trip...but that will be it for us this year!

Katie, that is funny. We're doing the opposite - VB for end of May, after school and dance recitals are over.

We'll be in hubby's burgundy Ford Explorer with baseball Mickey antenna! Also, savedisney.com, DVC and Braves stickers.

Hopefully the W sticker will be off by then!

His car is starting to look like a moving billboard....

Our ressies are for Sunday, April 3rd coming home the Sunday before school starts back. We ~might~ stay at a value or something and leave Saturday instead, but I doubt it. Hubby is getting tired of the moving around bit. (Future add on?)

I wonder how bad the traffic will be going down that week? You mentioned alot of Atlanta has the same spring break. We're in Cobb. I can't remember - are you, too?
