What time does the Monorail start operating each day?

No, you would not want to use it for rope drop. I am not actually sure when it starts running.

I think at least an hour before early opening for resort guests. I would assume you are staying at a monorail resort. If so, I would certainly walk to MK from GF or The Contemporary / BLT. Poly, I would definitely use the monorail.

If trying to get to Epcot, that might be a different discussion. Buses, might be you better option.

I believe the OP is referring to the Disneyland Monorail, which only goes from the far end of DTD to Tomorrowland. It does not open before the parks as it drops off inside of one. Best case, it opens when the parks open, but then you have to wait for the train, board, ride, and disembark. It isn't really the transportation system that the WDW Monorail is.
