What time does it get dark?

We are going in 10 days and will be there mon-thurs, the parks close at 8pm, and I was hoping to see all the lights on in CL, I heard it is a whole new experience to see it lit up.

For the week that you'll be there, it will be twilight between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. so it won't be pitch dark out yet. You'll find the twilight darkening significantly between 7:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. I find this the prettiest time to be in the parks for lights, btw. You will see all the bright lights shine while the park is cast in a rich twilight shade. It's magical!

Dark night (astronomical twilight) starts about 8:15 p.m., give or take a few minutes.

There's a website that will give you times of sunset and sunrise for any city and any day of the year.

Hopefully the link works. Otherwise just go to timeanddate.com and click on sun calculator. I've used it for lots of things like figuring out which dining time to book on Alaska cruises, seeing if we'll arrive in a new city after dark, etc.

If you have an iPhone you can also ask Siri when sunset is on a given day.

Keep in mind however, that DCA doesn't necessarily do the CL lighting at dusk exactly. DD16 and I weren't sure what time it would actually be so we hung around and we actually felt that the lights came up a bit earlier then we would have expected. Had we not been there we would have completely missed it.

I was all excited about this myself, so I made it a point to be around CL during the entire time period that one could consider "dusk." Around 7:25 or so, standing next to Flo's, I turned around to take a few photos of the beautiful rock formations that are part of the RSR ride, and when I turned back around the lights were on. I guess it must not have been an exciting experience because I missed it entirely and I was standing right there.

Sunset was at 7:15PM on the day that we went to watch the Lighting of CarsLand. If I remember correctly the music started right about then and the lights came on. It was pretty fast so if you blinked you might have missed it. Still it was a cool experience, which sorta mirrored the sequence in the film.
