What time does AK parking lot open

Several years ago we had to wait in line in our car at the parking booths at AK before they opened the park. I want to say they didn't open until an hour before the park did because I remember thinking that seemed late. That was way before Pandora though.

Do they take credit cards at the parking booth? Never drove before, don't know.

I tried to understand this, and my GUESS is that DreadBaroness was heading back to Animal Kingdom LODGE parking but, instead, made a turn into the Animal Kingdom THEME PARK lot.

Weirder question. Since you can park in the lots as early as you want, what is to stop you from going past bag check and lining up at the entrance. For that matter, I can't remember seeing any way of stopping people there either. I'm sure there is something and you can't just stroll into the park. I just don't recall seeing gates of any kind.

There are gates at the entrance to Animal Kingdom Park.

I have been in the wrong lane when heading towards AK Lodge and ended up near the parking booths and found myself turning around right there and getting back into the correct lane. Thank goodness it was super late and traffic was minimal!
