Growing up, dinner was always at 4:00 pm on the dot.

Nowadays, we don't really have a firm dinner time. It can be anywhere from 5-7, although I try not to eat much later than 7 or 8 because I have reflux disease and will suffer all night from it if I eat too late.

Usuall;y between 6 and 6:30..I ahve it ready at 6, if DS gets from practice ahead of DH, he goes ahead and eats as he is starving and has to get to homework.

5:30 would be the earliest and that would be only if we had to be somewhere. Most nights it is as soon as dh gets home 6-7pm anywhere around then

I aim for 6:00 but it is occasionally as early as 5 (if I'm dieting and starving from a small lunch and no snack) or as late as 7 if I get busy doing something else.

But wow, 4:00 is really, really early. Were you allowed a snack before bedtime?

We usually eat around 5/5:30p.m. Growing up, most of my friends ate much later and thought it was weird we ate so early. But dangit, we were hungry! (No snacktime when I got home from school and both of my parents were teachers.)

In HS, we no longer really ate dinner together because of differing schedules and my homework load. I'd normally eat around 6:00p.m. and sneak more later if I was staying up late with schoolwork.

Now we're back to eating early most nights. =D

If I'm not eating with the family - or when I'm back living up to the lake - I'll eat "dinner" anywhere from 6 p.m. to as late as 10:30 p.m..

I'm one of those people who can't stick to a schedule when it comes to eating.. I have to be really hungry, so whenever that time rolls around, that's when I eat..:goodvibes

If we don't have any sports or anything, I try to aim for 6, but at least half the time during the school year, we're at some kind of practice, so it's either really early like 4:30ish or later, like 7 sometimes 8.

Growing up dinner was at 5P sharp. Sunday was at 3P.

My husband used to get home at 7P when the kids were little and that was dinner time. Now he gets home earlier so we eat around 6P.

It isnt odd to eat out at 8 or later though.:confused3

Between 5:30 and 6:30 depending on what activities the kids have. My youngest doesn't get home until 3:45 so I can't imagine eating dinner at 4:00.

I didn't get home from school until after 4, and my parents weren't home from work until 530, so 6 to 615 was the norm for me as a kid.
7 at the earliest was the norm around here when our kids were growing up, except on Little League or Soccer nights, when it was often 9pm.
Now that the kids are grown, and I have to be at work at 3 am, dinner is about 5:15 pm.

On average, 6:30pm. It's rare we eat earlier, but not uncommon to eat later. I'd say never later than 8pm.

Growing up I think we ate pretty close to 5:30

Our somewhat usual time now is closer to 6:30. 7-7:30 if the kids have practice. Occasionally could be as early as 5:30. I would rather eat late with all of us home and eating together

Between 5:30 and 6...never any later than 6:30, though. :)

We are really go with the flow type people---we eat anywhere from 4:00 until 830 depending on what either of us has going for the night. Some nights she has play rehearsal from 3 until 730 so we eat after that.

Oh yeah. My parents were very relaxed with food. If we wanted something at any point during the day, we were free to get it. My mom worked a 7-3 shift and my dad worked 8-4 (and those guys were outta there right at 4!), so dinner was on the table when he got home. I guess dinner wasn't technically at 4 on the dot, but rather 4:02 or 4:30. ;) We lived close to where they both worked.

Growing up we ate around 5:30-6:00, now we eat around 5:30-6:00.

Interesting thread. We usually don't eat until at least 7:30 pm. We ate at 7 tonight and I am ready to hit the bed.

Mine is cooking now and it's 7:45. Should be served in the next 15 minutes (baked lemon pepper chicken breasts and steamed broccoli and cauliflower sauteed with a few cherry tomatoes for flavor) and wild rice.

This timing isn't uncommon, though we probably more typically eat around 7:30. Never earlier than 6:30. We got home around 5:30, I exercised for an hour and 15 on the treadmill, started dinner, have been doing laundry and household stuff while cooking. Sometimes we eat as late as 9 even on a school night depending. (Oh and I have a 4th and 5th grader who go to bed about 10.)

Growing up, I think 6:30 to 8:30 was normal depending on schedule.

4 and 5 pm is way to early for me. We're not even home by then!
