What the heck is wrong with you people?

After the last University of Georgia game, spectators left more than 70 TONS of refuse on the grounds of UGA, including feces on the spectator field.

I know I grump about how people at Disney seem to have lost all sense of manners and act like it's all about them, but evidently the Entitlement Generation mentality has spread to the deep south, too.

So annoyed with how frickin' lazy and self-important everyone seems, today.

When I was a CM I had to clean up at the Indian Jones Stunt Spectacular where they had just held a cheery competition. It was the most disgusting thing I had ever seen. I am not sure where people sat because it was WALL-TO-WALL garbage. People can be gross!

Thats 140,000 pounds... How many people does that stadium seat? That would be a couple pounds per person. Didnt anybody throw anything in the garbage?

Shouldn't the thread title be: "What the heck is wrong with those people?" ;)

As for throwing away all there garbage, a question to ask is, "How many garbage cans were around and available?"

On New Year's Eve in Times Square, for security reasons, the city removes every garbage can, every mailbox, and welds shut every street manhole cover and lamp post electrical opening, so that bombs can't be planted in one. :scared1:

I'm sure large stadiums have some type of security measures where they have limited the number of garbage cans available so they can keep an eye out on the ones they do have out. This means people just leave their junk around by their seats since it doesn't fit in the cans. :sad2:

Eh- It's Georgia. They're DAWGS.

*sniff* What do you expect?

;)

I'm kidding. That is truly gross.

ATLANTA - Tailgaters during Georgia's game against South Carolina Saturday night left tons of trash in front of the University of Georgia's law library.

University of Georgia President Michael Adams said he was appalled at the amount and conditions on north campus on Saturday night and Sunday morning after the football game.

Adams heard from hundreds of students and alumni who were upset with the mess. Adams said that an appeal needs to be made to the students, fans and community to find solutions.

UGA officials said over 70 tons of trash were left in the area, including signs of public urination and defecation.

The president did say most fans do not behave like that but when "you have over 110,000 people on campus it is getting harder and harder to control the problem."

Adams said he is "unwilling to except the notion that people are going to do what people are going to do. we are going to try to do better and are pleading for help for our plans."

Adams was asked what might have had exasperated the problem. He cited the fact it was a night game, a SEC game, and usually excessive alcohol associated with a with night game."

I have to point out as a professional proofreader that what the article meant to say was "exacerbated", not "exasperated", and "accept" not "except". I might need to email them and let them know that my services are available, lol. There's still absolutely no excuse for this, IMO, they've been having games at UGA for decades.

also at Indy, we had the pleasure of a guy (sitting behind us) explaining the whole show loudly to someone on his cell phone. When we got him to finally be quiet, his wife decided to change the baby's stinky diaper. Of course they left it in the stands!

cigarette butts and fast food wrappers are the number one pollutant of the roads around my area.

I'm guessing major tailgating, and not nearly enough trash cans. I've seen them overflow badly everywhere before SEC games. Having a big party can generate a lot of trash, and multiply that by 5000 parties, and you have a trash disaster on your hands.

I've always thought that the major football schools should have big recycling dumpsters brought in for tailgating, but I've never seen it done.

As for the feces, a lot of that is probably from dogs, though I've seen drunks do a lot of stupid things before and after games.

Hey, don't point that "you people" at me - I'm not a Georgia fan!

Really, though, as much as I'd like to be surprised by something like this, I'm not. I see it at our local movie theaters and sports venues all the time. People always leave their garbage lying around their seats instead of taking it to a trash can. I think it's disgusting, but apparently some people see nothing wrong with it. :( I think the "logic" is "They pay people to clean up after these events, so I guess I don't have to clean up after myself." But I think that the employees are there to get whatever the customers miss, not to completely clean up for them.

The trash left on the National Mall in DC during the Inaugaration in January was disgusting, especially since one of the messages being delivered was to volunteer & help your country.

I would think the people who attended would be the most supportive of anything asked.

People are lazy. If they bring items to a game, concert or speech, they surely should be able to carry them home or to somewhere to dispose of properly.

Many parks, local to national, can no longer provide trash removal services and people are expected to "you carry it in, you carry it out".

We didn't go anywhere near campus on Saturday, (not that brave) but late Sunday afternoon we were at the Ramsey Center and workers were still picking up these large paper/cardboard? trashcans and disposing of them. I can't even imagine what it looked like earlier in the day. I also saw barbeques left on the side of roads approaching campus, just abandoned there.

Oh yuk! That's just nasty. We are so uber concious about this stuff that we trek OTHER people's trash out when we go hiking, walking or camping...that's just gross! They should make the tailgaters clean that up, but who knows who it was......

Those people are no better than the trash they left behind.

Here's the thing about litter........People need to take personal responsibility for themselves. If a person makes a mess, that person should pick it up. Period.

The amount of litter that happens is disgusting. I find it ironic that people complain about society ruining the environment and that the message to "go green" is everywhere; however, people litter all over the place. :sad2:

You ought to email Steve Dixon. Considering this is a press release for a university, they should be able to do better than that.

Amen and amen! :thumbsup2

GA-USC is a HUGE game. These are 18 year olds. I would expect no less from either side. That being said, it's very, very sad.

I know it's a huge game but I would venture a guess it was the alumni rather than the students from what I have seen at the Gators games I've been to.

That is just sad! :sad2:

I'm always amazed at how much garbage is left behind when we go to the movie theater. I make my family throw stuff away in the nicely provided trash receptacle placed by the theater doors. It's never overflowing as we usually go on a Sunday afternoon. I'm not saying that everyone does it but for those that do, What's up with that? :confused3

Same thing when I see trash on the sides of the road. Sometimes items can be blown from your car or the bed of a truck but for those that throw things on purpose, Why? You couldn't wait till you got home to throw away the empty fast food wrappers?
