OK I started this a month ago and have lost 7-8 pounds in September. I've really started exercising a lot on my treadmill. I walk 45 minutes at a fast pace. Well I had a really bad week and had pizza and then pizza leftovers for dinner 2 nights, chick-fil-a and then taco bell while at the hospital all day waiting for my best friend to give birth (yeah:) ) taco bell while out shopping, one other dinner out. I did not gain any weight since I've been working out 6 days/week. So now this week I've gone crazy realizing I CAN EAT WHATEVER I WANT and not gain as long as a I work out. It just tasted so good :( ....it's so hard to climb back up on that wagon but I guess I need to do it huh? Imagine what I would have lost if I had been good and working out  ...oh well..I just needed to rant..

oh it was Halloween candy I bought 1 MONTH EARLY at Costco.."oh it's a deal I can't pass up" well not when you eat 1/2 of it before Halloween and have to buy another bag the night before!!! Someone please kick my booty!!!

Gillis,

I think we all have been in your shoes!! What inspired me to get back on track (after I lost 26 lbs. and ended up gaining it all back and then some) was to join a challenge here at W.I.S.H. Try joining Operation Trick Or Treat or one of the other challenges. :-) Don't worry about what you've done wrong, it's in the past now and tomorrow is a Brand New Day!!! Make a plan and stick to it!! You can totally do this, Gillis! :D

{{{Hugs}}}

Oh, I feel your pain....how many years I have gotten my halloween candy early, ate it all (a couple of times each year) and purchased more (a couple of times each year).

Yes, Gillis, you are an adult. You can choose to eat whatever you want, whenever you want.

The big question here is WHAT IS YOUR GOAL???

Are you trying to lose weight? Maybe you can accomplish that by exercising like crazy and not worrying about what you're eating, but you'd lose weight faster if you combine good food choices and exercise.

My goal is to be healthier. To do this, I have to eat healthy food and choose to get some exercise. I want to have a fit body so that I can fight off disease and injury, heal faster if I do get injured or sick, hopefully avoid the diabetes and heart disease that runs in my family and have a long healthy active life with my wonderful husband, kids and (someday hopefully) grandkids.

Does that mean I'll never eat pizza or taco bell again? No. It means that I can only eat these things on occasion. The majority of the time I have to give my body healthy foods to reach my goal.

So, Gillis, WHAT IS YOUR GOAL, and how are your food choices and exercise choices helping you to reach it???

Maybe a different presepctive would help. Here is what I have been doing and I think it is working as I have lost 2 lbs. My parents and grandfather like to meet for lunch after pre-school. So 3 days a week we eat fast food. That is A LOT of calories and how I put on the extra 10 lbs I have right now. So I had to decide, do I stop going or do I rethink what I eat at these places? I am ordering differently. Yesterday at Wendy's I had a bowl of Chili. In the past I would have ordered the Spicy Chicken Combo and I would have eaten it all. For me I still get the social time out but am eating less and better. I think WW has suggestions for what is ok at different fast food places, maybe someone would list them. I don't have the book. I figure I am doing this to change my habits for life and fast food is a part of my life, so I need to learn how to make it work for me. :D Sorry this is so long.

Thanks 'crazymom', I think I just went berzerk after 4 weeks of perfection and no cheats. (I think I felt guiltier after reading Doe's comments:( ... ) I did make some good choices and being out with my friend getting a cookie at the mall and actually trying to decide on the healthiest cookie to buy:confused: I just shook it off and got a diet coke. I know I could have gotten a cookie but I did not really want it..I was just going along with the crowd. I had been perfect for 4 weeks and I just revolted!! I think I'm back on track and realize I can have treat.

(I'll give the candy to my mom...she's not a big chocolate fan)

Thanks

OK Gillis....now you've got me thinking......
What is the healthiest cookie?
Nuts are good for you.....
Dark chocolate has anti-oxidents or something....
Peanut butter is protein......
Oatmeal and raisins both provide nutrients....

So maybe a cookie with lots of "stuff" in it is a good thing!

Gillis, here's a {hug} for you!! I didn't mean to make you feel bad or guilty. :(

In your original post, your last line said Someone please kick my booty!!! and I guess I went a bit over the line. My apologies.

I'm sure you'll find the healthy balance that you need to find to make your plan liveable. I know I can't eat everything and anything, but I also know I can't be too rigid or I'll drive myself totally crazy (and it's not a long drive  !!) It sounds like that's what you're struggling with also.

Best wishes for your continued success!

You did great to realize that you were not doing the way you really want to. Just think though, what you would have gained, if you hadn't been exercising. Good luck to you.

gillis - you are so not alone! when I first began WW I was really gung-ho and those first few pounds usually come off quicker and I realized how much better I felt eating healthy! Then the deprived emotions came into play (once a month they still do!) and I indulged, felt guilty, and had to jump back on the wagon!

My comments would be to realize if you are like me and still need to have "treats" and then find healthy foods that satisfy your "treat deprivation"

Actually Nana's Cookies are healthy!! I've had the sunflower one and it's awesome and only 4 pts for the whole huge cookie!! Check them out here to see if you can purchase close byHealthy Cookies!

Have you tried baking with splenda yet?

anyhow - you are a step ahead of the game by seeing your potentially destructive behavior, now the hard part of working through it. Remember this is a new lifestyle and it's ok to find ways to satisfy a sweet or salty craving and not sabotage your hard work! It's ok to lose the weight slowly and when you "cheat" just move forward. Remember our WISH motto - Onward and downward! (no looking backward ;))
