What is the #1 thing you look for in your accomodations? Aside from price that is. If there are 50 hotels that all can fit in your budget than what is it? Location? Amenities? Modern rooms? Reviews of past guests? Past personal expierence? What is that one thing that cinches it for you?

For me I'd say it' amenities. We are the type that will drive alittle further to get the most bang for our buck. I want a list of amenities that goes down my arm. AND-- if a nice continental breaksfast is included free- it climbs my ladder even more. :)

allowing pets
condo type - timeshares - I like the kitchen or kitchennett plus the washer/dryer

Our number #1 thing is cleanliness, followed by location. My additional preferences are good in-room seating, especially for a longer stay - I hate having to sit on the bed all the time. I love the setup in condos/timeshares, especially with the jacuzzi tubs and washer/dryers.

safety would be #1. After that it would be cleanliness followed by amenities.

cleanliness is extremely important, but location and price are my top 2 factors

After price, it is location, location, location. Then I read the reviews to make sure it's not a dump.

That's a tough one...it depends on the type of vacation we've planned..ie, if we're not going to be "hanging around" the hotel lots...then amenities are lower on the list..

I'm willing to bump the budget up a little if the breakfast, a room upgrade, or other "freebies" are involved :teeth:

Villas...we'll sacrifice location for a lovely villa at a more budget friendly price..but again, I'll bump the budget a little if the villa amenitites are more to our liking, ie extra gamesroom stuff, highspeed PC...etc, etc.

I guess we just like feeling we got more bang for our bucks too:teeth:

Depends on the trip. Usually I'll base it on free breakfast or if there's a pool (outdoor in summer) if I know we'll have down time to use it. Our last choice was based on location because it's only 1 night so I wanted to be close to where we're going the next day.

The size of the beds!! That's probably the main reason why we stay off-site. I just researched a weekend trip to Quebec City for our family of 4 (dh had to go for a work trip) and the majority of hotels offered 2 double beds....how do people share those!

My kids are 8 & 10 and even they have trouble sleeping in one together. That's why I love our Florida vacations - so many condos and villas to choose from that are less than many hotel rooms in other cities. I'm fine with a queen size, king is even better, but a sleep sofa or a double bed is not my idea of a vacation.

(should also add we love a nice pool!)

It's interesting to see so many different answers. Keep them coming.

With two adult children and one teenager, I really am into suites or condos for our stays. If it's just me and Don, I don't mind a basic hotel room, but do value cleanliness. A fridge is good too.

Room lots of room I want a seperate room from my children and they need there own space also. The more space the better.
