What temp do you keep your house set at in the winter?

We keep ours at around 65/66 all the time. I have a friend who won't go below 72 in her house because she wants to continue to wear tank tops and shorts around the house.

I'm always in a sweatshirt, comfy pants, and typically a t-shirt under the sweatshirt, and socks and slippers so I never get cold.

We do have a tiny space heater in the boys bedroom in the basement they turn on sometimes, but usually that's when it gets super cold out.

So, what do you keep yours at? Do you lower it to keep your bills down? Or are you not a cold blooded person and you'd rather have it cooler?

I like having it cooler, personally. I don't like getting hot when I'm running around the house cleaning so I'd rather take a layer off, versus keep the house warmer.

What about you?

We have ours programmed to be at 72 while we are home, 69 while we are sleeping and 68 while we are gone during the day. It kicks on 30 mins before we get home so that we come home to 72. Even at 72, I am still wearing a sweatshirt, jeans and socks. If I had it my way, it would be at 76 all the time, but DH and DD9 are both cold-blooded and prefer it at 68, so 72 is a compromise.

At night I sleep in thermal long johns and have my electric blanket cranked up high while DD and DH sleep in tshirts and no blankets at all!

68 when we're home
65 at night and when we're at work/school

Our heat is set to 63 up from 60 last year. When anyone is cold it gets popped up to 68 on an automatic thermostat that returns to 63 after 4 hours.
This way no one forgets to turn it down when the house sits empty all day.

We also wear shoes/slippers and socks .. sweatshirts .. the usual winter stuff.
Our gas bill dropped considerably from when we kept the heat set at 68 and tried to remember to turn it down when leaving for work.

62 during the day and 58 at night. You get used to it. But, we're having a baby soon and will probably crank it up a little for her. Plus, I take full advantage of sunny days, those take the house up to around 70.

We keep ours between at 64-65. If it gets a little chilly I might turn it up to 67 just to run once and then I will turn it back down. I just don't like breathing hot air, I would rather wear a hoodie and slippers and use a warm couch blanket.

OK I need to know where everyone is located here. Keeping heat at 60 degrees? BRRRR I would die LOL. I'm in Northern California and mine is set for 72 and I would just be freezing if it were lower. I also have a baby in the house as well, so I have left it at 72 for the past year. We're moving to a larger home in a month and I don't want my costs to go crazy so I"m thinking of trying a lower temp, but I already know I"ll be freezing haha.

I think that 72 in one house might feel the same as 65 in another house. Our house is very chilly at 69. Yet a previous home we owned was nice and toasty at 69. So the numbers are really not equal from house to house.

We are in CT&VT. When we are home, the heat is set at either 62 or 64. When we are not home we turn it down to 50. I can't imagine what the bills would be like with it set at 72! (Considering that it can easily be 10 or 15 below zero overnight in Vermont).

YEs CT and VT are very cold so that's why I was thinking it makes sense to have it lower in some of those colder places where it's alreayd freezing outside. Stay warm everyone! hehe.

JMAC, I'm in Sacramento so we probably have comparable weather.

We keep our thermostat at 72 when we're home and turn it down to 67 or 68 at night. We used to turn it down to 64 or so at night but we have a 2 year old who kicks her blanket off so I like to keep it a little warmer. I have her sleep in those full body blanket sleepers with feet and I go in at night before I turn in to put the blanket back on her, but some mornings she is still cold when I get her up. Wish I could train her to keep her blanket on!!

Exactly. When its 10 degrees outside and you come into the 62 degree house it feels very toasty!

I am in NWFL, so no snow here, but we do have cooler weather from time to time. It was in the mid 30's last night. I am also in a townhouse, so only the front of my house is really exposed.

When the air is on, it is set to 75 in the day and 71 at night.

The few times the heat is on, it is set at 68.

61 from 9-5, 66 from 5-10, 61 from 10pm-6am, 66 from 6 am to 9 am.

That keeps out heat bill down to around $75 a month.

I keep mine at 68 in the daytime and 65 at night. The only exception is if it is raining and cold rather than dry and cold, I will turn it up a bit more. Cold and damp is just more uncomfortable to me I guess.

Ours is set at 65 all the time. We have a hamster and a dog and I don't want them to get to cold.

PA gal. 64 during the day, 60 at night and no one has frozen to death yet :rotfl:

We're in MI and we keep the house at 68 when DD and I are at home, 65 during the day when it's just DH at home (he works evenings.) I'm often still in a hoodie with it at 68. I also sleep with an electric blanket. :)
